Engineering Maintenance Manager(Internally known as Maintenance Team Manager)Location: South Ockendon, RM15 (Onsite)Type: Full time, Permanent (Monday to Friday days)Are you an experienced engineering leader with a passion for safety, reliability, and continuous improvement? If so, we'd love to hear from you!CHEP is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the engineering function at our South Ockendon Service Centre. This is a key leadership role where you'll ensure plant equipment and services are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with operational and compliance standards.You'll play a critical role in embedding and maturing the site's Engineering TPM Maintenance Strategy, driving a proactive, reliability-focused culture across the plant. Working in a highly automated environment, you'll support PLC-driven systems, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and use data and CMMS insights to improve asset performance and uptime.What You'll Be Responsible ForLeading and developing a team of eight Maintenance Technicians, ensuring high levels of capability, engagement, and accountabilityEmbedding and continuously improving the Engineering TPM Maintenance Strategy, driving a shift from reactive to proactive maintenanceManaging breakdowns and planned maintenance activities, deploying internal and external resources effectivelyDeveloping and delivering a robust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) strategy, ensuring compliance and closing maintenance gapsDriving equipment reliability through optimisation, standard procedures, and performance monitoringManaging engineering data systems and ensuring strong CMMS compliance and data integritySupporting engineering and capex projects, including specification, installation, and commissioning of new automated equipmentOwning maintenance budgets and controlling maintenance material spendManaging contractors on site in line with legal, safety, and company requirementsConducting risk assessments and ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standardsIdentifying and delivering continuous improvement and business improvement opportunitiesWhat We're Looking ForProven experience leading maintenance or engineering teams within a manufacturing or industrial environmentStrong technical background with experience in mechanical and/or electrical disciplinesExperience working in automated plants, ideally with exposure to PLCcontrolled systemsTrack record of embedding TPM or reliabilitybased maintenance strategiesExperience using CMMS systems, with implementation or optimisation experience highly advantageousStrong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and best practiceExperience managing maintenance budgets and P&L responsibilitiesConfident people leader with strong coaching, communication, and stakeholder management skillsResilient, proactive, and comfortable leading change in a fast-paced environmentQualificationsEssential:Completed Level 3 recognised engineering apprenticeship (mechanical and/or electrical)HNC/HND, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent engineering qualification (preferred)Desirable:NEBOSH18th EditionPLC experienceWhat's in It for You?Certified Top 17 Global EmployerAnnual bonus up to 10% based on company and individual performancePrivate healthcare (single cover)Flexible working25 days holiday + statutory holidays, with the option to buy/sell 5 additional days7.5% company pension contributionLife AssuranceEmployee Assistance Programme
