Job Description Location: Hemel Hempstead (HP2 7HL) Salary: £25,583 – £25,989 per annum (Grade H3, Scale Point 6) Contract: Full-time, Permanent Start Date: ASAP Interviews: This week About the Role We are seeking a reliable, motivated, and experienced Caretaker to join a well-established site team at a thriving school in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-run school environment. You will support the day-to-day operation of the school site, working closely with staff and students to ensure the premises are secure, well maintained, and fully operational. Working Hours Term Time: Monday – Friday, 10:30am – 6:30pm (6:00pm finish on Fridays) School Holidays: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm Key Responsibilities Assist with the security, opening, and closing of the school site Carry out basic maintenance, repairs, and health & safety checks Support fire safety procedures and emergency protocols Prepare rooms and facilities for lessons, events, and examinations Monitor contractors and report maintenance issues Maintain clean, safe, and orderly external areas Engage positively with staff, students, and visitors The Ideal Candidate Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, or site support role (school experience desirable) Good working knowledge of health & safety procedures Strong communication and interpersonal skills Basic IT skills A proactive, flexible, and team-focused approach Able to work confidently around students and staff What’s on Offer Competitive salary (£25,583 – £25,989) Local Government Pension Scheme Employee Assistance Programme Vivup cashback scheme (HCC benefits) A supportive and professional working environment Start ASAP | Interviews taking place this week
