Junior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology and Cardiac SurgeryWeare excited to offer the opportunity to join the Heart Team at the YorkshireHeart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary, as a Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1-2) inCardiology and Cardiac Surgery. This is a fixed term contract is a fantasticopportunity for those seeking experience of cardiology and cardiac surgery careat a large tertiary cardiac centre.Pleasenote, that we currently have vacancies available to start immediately, ifappointed. The contract would run until August 2026.Theseposts will be tailored to meet training needs, including opportunities fortrainees to become involved in research and procedural skills. The posts wouldbe suitable for individuals who have completed foundation posts, or those whowish to evolve their experience in order to prepare for higher specialtytraining programmes.The successful applicant would be involved in auditand quality improvement projects, including the chance to collaborate with ourresearch teams.Main duties of the jobThepost holder will undertake ward duties (both Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology),supporting inpatient care on the cardiology admissions unit and the inpatientbed base. There will be opportunities to expand training in cardiology andcardiac surgery specific skills (e.g. cardioversion, central venous access,temporary pacing, CCU care, cardiac catheter lab work, cardiac theatres andimaging including echocardiography) as well as outpatient clinics. It isintended that the duties of the posts will be tailored to the individualsneeds, taking into consideration the post holders prior experience, around theservice elements of the role.Therewill be a commitment to 1:11 full shift LST cardiology/surgery on call rota,including long days, nights and twilights. This is fully supported by aresident full shift HST Cardiology rota and twice daily consultant ward rounds.The service is supported by a number of foundationyear doctors and IMT 1-2 doctors as well as Advanced Care Practitioners.About usThisappointment will be based at the LGI, one of the largest and most moderntertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million.There are 6 state of the art Cardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCIprocedures, including 24/7 primary PCI, over 900 invasiveelectrophysiology/cardiac ablation procedures and in excess of 700 implantabledevice procedures per annum, making the Yorkshire Heart Centre one of thehighest volume units in the UK. The TAVI service is one of the largest in theUK. As well as time on the wardsand on an on-call rota, this allows flexibility to tailor training, includingexperience in outpatient clinics, catheter lab time, operating theatreobservation and cardiac imaging.Itis intended that the successful applicant would be involved in audit andquality improvement projects, including the chance to collaborate withresearchers to present and publish work.Wewill ensure that these posts receive dedicated clinical supervision with anexperienced named supervisor, portfolio review, study leave and teachingprogrammes with evidence to count towards future training.Thisappointment will be based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds GeneralInfirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in theUK, serving a population of over 3 million. There are 6 state of the artCardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCI procedures, including 24/7primary PCI, over 900 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablation proceduresand in excess of 700 implantable device procedures per annum, making theYorkshire Heart Centre one of the highest volume units in the UK. The TAVIservice is one of the largest in the UK. There are multiple tertiary servicesincluding inherited cardiac conditions, valves, heart muscle and adultcongenital cardiology. The cardiac MRI service, adult congenital cardiologyservice, paediatric cardiology and interventional paediatric cardiology as wellas adult and paediatric surgical services all complement each other within thesame site.Theinpatient department consists of three inpatient wards (including acutecardiology admissions and cardiac surgery), a day case interventional ward, acatheter laboratory suite and a 10 bed CCU.Theadult Cardiac Surgery unit has the capacity to perform approximately 1000 openheart operations per year.
