Job Description

DYNEX SEMICONDUCTOR LTD DynexSemiconductor Ltd have been manufacturing semiconductor products for over 60years;providing IGBT, Bipolar, Power Assembly and Electric Vehicle System products to customers across the world. As a business, we constantly strive to grow and develop as a leading, independent manufacturer of high power and high-reliability electronic components. It is an exciting time to be joiningDynexas we embark on a number of exciting projects, which you can be part of. Successful candidates will join the team at our Research and Development Centre, contributing to power module development projects frominceptionright through to production. THE OPPORTUNITY Keen to find a role that offers a challenge and an opportunity to develop future power semiconductor modules for our growing customer base? As a Power Module engineer your role will include: Design of power modules incorporating wide band gap semiconductors (e.gGaN,SiC) to ensurehigh levelsof switching performance and compliance withapplication relatedstandards. A particular view toward embedding of power devices within multi-layered PCB stacks to produce power modules with both high-power density and lowparasitics. Analysis of magnetics, thermal characteristics, and EMI profiles of those power modules andsystems toin order tooptimiseperformance as much as possible andmaximiseswitching performance. Design and layout of high and low power circuits, designing to such considerations as; commutation loop inductanceminimisation, gate loop inductanceminimisationand balancing, current sharing between devices and theminimisationof electromagnetic interference. Perform circuit simulations and PDN analysis toanalyseandoptimisethe above. Develop module designs with system level architecture in mind. Whereappropriate inputintodesign of system level architecture such as capacitor integration, heat sink design/coolant flow integration, placement of gate drive boards and power busbars etc. Produce schematic documentation and engineering drawings for power module and system designs and oversee early sample manufacture of prototype modules. Use of 3D and 2D CAD modelling software (SolidEdge) and PCB design software (Altium)in order toproduce module and system designs as outlined. Similarly, the use of both finite element modelling software (ANSYS Mechanical and Q3D) and circuit simulation software (LTSpice, PLECS) to evaluate the designs produced andmaximisetheir static and dynamic performance. Design power modules and systemsin accordance withDesign for Manufactureprincipalsformthe outset. Take on project leadership positions, overseeing and driving a project from idea/inceptionall the way through to prototype manufacture. With the opportunity for full ownership of product development projects. Working as part of a collaborative team to create module designs starting from the ideas stage, meeting internal or external customer requirements and specifications. ABOUT YOU As a team, we workreally closelytogether, weare looking for an engineer who has experience working with power modules, preferably within a research and development capacity. We offer support anddevelopto the team; therefore, these roles would suit engineers who are keen to take on a new challenge and project. The ideal candidate for this role will be equipped with a combination of the following skills and competencies: Educated to degree level or higher in electronics, electrical or mechanical engineering relatedsubject. OR Equivalent relevant industrial experience in power electronics module design, PCB design and layout, or power systems development and design. Mastersor PhD level education in relevantsubjectis desirable. Industrial experience of power module and power system level design and layout, particularly power inverters. Experience of automotive drive train inverters would beadvantageous. Experience in electronics design, particularly with a view to circuit topology and layout and the design of power electronics systems considering parasitic magnetics, thermalsand EMI. Experience using 2D and 3D modelling tools to produce engineering drawings anddesigns,a particular focus on electronics and power electronics products and systems would be desirable. Experience in PCB design and layout including foroptimisationof circuit layout for balancing andoptimisingof commutation loop and control loop circuits. Experience with Altium Designer would beadvantageous. Strong experience in circuit simulation techniques forcharacterisingcircuit designs and deviceselection. Experience ofLTSpice, Q3Dand orPLECS is extremely desirable. Experience of wide-band-gapsemiconductorse.g.GaNorSiCwould beadvantageous. Chartership with relevant body (e.g.IEEE, IOP) would be viewedfavourably Ideallyyou will be self-motivated with a desire to produce high quality design work as part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary team. You will be confident in taking the lead, making engineering decisions that directly affect the performance of theproductand be able to communicate your ideas effectively and passionately to colleagues from across the business.
