Job DescriptionPlease read the following job description thoroughly to ensure you are the right fit for this role before applying.Design ManagerLocation: East Grinstead (Full-time, Office-Based)An established and respected business within the custom build residential sector is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead its in-house design team.With decades of expertise in delivering high-quality, bespoke timber frame homes, this organisation specialises in efficient, sustainable construction and prides itself on technical excellence and customer-focused design.This is an exciting opportunity for a talented design professional with proven leadership experience to play a key role in delivering outstanding residential projects from concept through to manufacture.The RoleAs Design Manager, you will oversee the full design process for bespoke residential homes and small-scale developments, ensuring projects are delivered accurately, on time, and to the highest quality standards.You will lead a small team of Designers and Technicians, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and internal manufacturing and construction teams to translate client visions into thoughtful, buildable solutions.This is a full-time, office-based position in East Grinstead.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage a team of Designers and TechniciansOversee production of drawings from concept and planning through to Building Control and Technical Construction stagesManage team workload to ensure deadlines are achieved without compromising qualityCollaborate with Project Managers and engage with clients to develop practical, well-considered designsCoordinate with internal manufacturing and construction departmentsReview and approve technical drawings for accuracy and regulatory complianceSupport and mentor team members to encourage professional developmentManage drawing storage, filing, and documentation control processesAbout YouQualifications & Technical SkillsRIBA qualification or equivalent architectural qualificationProficiency in AutoCADWorking knowledge of SketchUp, Enscape xjdpvnf and PhotoshopExperienceProven experience managing and leading a design teamStrong portfolio demonstrating creative and technical expertiseIn-depth knowledge of UK planning policy and building regulationsUnderstanding of structural design principles, particularly timber frame constructionKnowledge of CDM regulations and associated responsibilitiesStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentDesirableExperience using AI and digital tools within architectural workflowsKnowledge of sustainable design and energy-efficient construction practices
