The school is known for its exceptional pastoral care, tight-knit community, and strong ceremonial and military heritage.The RoleThe school are seeking a caring and committed Matron to join the boarding team from August 2026. This role is fundamental to the smooth running of the boarding houses and wider school community. The Matron is central to pupil welfare, daily routines, and pastoral support, ensuring the boarding environment remains safe, nurturing, and well-organised.This is a non-teaching role and is particularly well-suited to individuals with a background in pastoral care, residential environments, childcare, nursing support, or wellbeing roles.Please note:Matrons work shifts across mornings, daytime, and evenings, including weekends on a rota, but with fewer weekend duties than Deputy House Staff, as the core business of this role is pastoral/matronal care, not leadership supervision.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide high-quality pastoral and practical care for pupils aged 10-18.Support the daily routines of the boarding house, including wake-ups, meals, prep time, and evening wind-down.Help manage minor medical issues, ensuring pupils health, hygiene, and wellbeing needs are met (non-clinical).Maintain laundry, uniform, and housekeeping standards within the house.Act as a point of support and reassurance, building positive relationships with pupils.Support the Housemaster/Housemistress with pastoral duties and communication.Uphold the schools ethos and expectations.Contribute fully to the boarding community, including some weekend rota shifts.RequirementsExperience working with young people in pastoral, care, residential, medical or wellbeing roles.Warm, approachable, and supportive manner with strong emotional resilience.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to remain calm, organised, and dependable during busy house routines.A nurturing personality with a genuine commitment to young peoples welfare.What the School OffersA deeply supportive and values-driven community rooted in service and tradition.Reduced-cost on-site accommodation, enabling full integration into boarding life.A picturesque 45-acre rural campus with excellent facilities.
