The Orchestra explores a wide selection of classical and contemporary music and is broadcast weekly on BBC Radio 3's Friday Night Is Music Night. It appears regularly at the BBC Proms, at London's Southbank Centre and in Alexandra Palace Theatre, where it is Associate Orchestra. It has a partnership with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham Royal Concert Hall. The BBC CO has close relationships with its Chief Conductor Anna-Maria Helsing, Principal Guest Conductor and Curator Edwin Outwater, Associate Conductor Jrme Kuhn and Conductor Laureate Barry Wordsworth. WHY JOIN THE TEAM We are looking for the person who can translate our agreed artistic plans and work across our management team, musicians and external partners to deliver them. You will work closely with both the artistic planning team, as well as the orchestra team. They will achieve this through the BBC Values and building trusting, close and respectful relationships across a wide range of internal colleagues and external partners. Due to the nature of the role, the Operations & Production Manager is required to travel across the UK, internationally and to work on evenings and weekends as dictated by the Orchestra's performance schedule. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT Model and promote BBC Values-demonstrating Audiences, Creativity, Trust, Respect, Accountability and One BBC in all aspects of the role. Lead all operational and production activity for the orchestra, collaborating with players and the Orchestra Manager to manage stage requirements and resolve venuebased health and safety issues. Produce stage plans and technical layouts, ensuring playing practicality, noiseexposure considerations, and effective coordination of camera and microphone positioning with production teams. Liaise with outsourced stage and transport logistics team, overseeing daily logistics, including forward planning for all load-ins and load-outs. Oversee risk management processes, including noiseexposure monitoring, and the creation and implementation of risk assessments for rehearsals, performances and tours. Conduct site visits and production planning, assessing venues for staging, lighting, access, and potential health and safety hazards, and attending production and management meetings as required. Manage resources and freelance staff, including recruitment and oversight of freelance production managers YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Extensive Live Event and Broadcast Experience: Proven track record working across a broad range of live musical events, including experience supporting or delivering broadcast productions for TV and radio. Risk, Health & Safety, and Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of Health & Safety and Noise at Work regulations, with experience in risk management planning and producing thorough risk assessments. Technical and Production Expertise: Solid understanding of the technical requirements for delivering live events, including awareness of orchestral layouts and the complexities involved in staging performances. Relationship Building and Interpersonal Skills: A personable, collaborative approach with the ability to build trusted relationships and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders, resolving issues diplomatically and with sensitivity. Planning, Project, and Financial Management: Excellent organisational and projectmanagement skills, with experience contributing to budget planning and effective financial oversight.
