Overview Applicants are invited to join the existing Gastroenterology Team at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust as a Locum Consultant on a 12‑month fixed term contract. The role supports the delivery of high‑quality, timely endoscopy care, outpatient clinics and inpatient care across the Trust.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver general and specialist Gastroenterology services to patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders.Provide endoscopy services in a 3‑room suite at QHB and a 2‑room suite at the Sir Robert Peel Hospital, including colonoscopy, large polyp EMR, PEGs, and inpatient endoscopy.Participate in outpatient clinics and inpatient ward cover across UHDB sites.Support the national bowel cancer screening programme.Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Specialists, IBD nurses, upper GI cancer nurses, nutrition and dietician teams to maintain care delivery.Work within the current ward cover system and provide on‑call service, with a current commitment to 1:16 general medical on‑call.Potential to develop specialist interest in IBD, nutrition, GI cancer or therapeutic endoscopy.Qualifications & ExperienceFull time Consultant in Gastroenterology, either a StR acquiring CCT or an established consultant.Experience in a large department providing luminal and hepatology services.Active GMC registration and the ability to work towards CESR/Portfolio Pathway to achieve GMC specialist registration during the contract.Benefits & Working ArrangementsProfessional and leadership development opportunities.Ongoing support from recruitment through to employment.Employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes.Flexibility options including part‑time, reduced hours, compressed hours, flexible start/finish times, annualised hours, term‑time hours, and hybrid working.Equal Opportunities University Hospitals of Derby & Burton is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusion, diversity and human rights.
