Plant Manager Local Generation & Hemswell Sites Salary: 75,000 A leading renewable energy and environmental infrastructure business is looking to appoint a Plant Manager to take full operational responsibility for two anaerobic digestion sites. This is a senior leadership opportunity within a growing waste-to-energy operation, ideal for an experienced plant leader who understands how to run complex industrial assets safely, efficiently and in full compliance. The successful person will oversee performance across both sites, lead site teams, manage budgets, drive reliability and ensure the plants consistently meet production, environmental and business targets. If you have a strong background in anaerobic digestion, biogas, waste treatment, wastewater or a similar process-led industrial environment, this is an excellent opportunity to step into a high-impact role with real operational ownership. The Role As Plant Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management, safety and performance of the sites. You will lead day-to-day operations across waste intake, digestate handling, gas production and CHP or upgrading systems, while ensuring the plants run efficiently and remain compliant at all times. You will also play a key role in developing site performance, identifying improvement opportunities, managing maintenance strategy, and ensuring the right standards, systems and people are in place to support long-term operational success. Key Responsibilities Lead all aspects of plant operations across the two sites Ensure safe, efficient and compliant running of anaerobic digestion processes Oversee waste intake, digestate operations, gas production and associated plant systems Drive improvements in output, cost-effectiveness and overall site performance Act as the nominated COTC holder and ensure suitable cover during absence Lead, coach and develop plant teams including supervisors, operators and maintenance staff Manage performance, training and staff development in line with company policy Work closely with maintenance teams to plan preventative and corrective maintenance Minimise downtime and ensure plant issues are resolved quickly and effectively Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required Manage plant budgets, forecasting, reporting and KPI performance Monitor both OPEX and CAPEX activity, identifying savings and improvement opportunities Act as the key point of contact for regulators, contractors, suppliers and external stakeholders Represent the sites during audits, inspections and other external interactions What We Are Looking For We are keen to hear from experienced Plant Managers or senior operational leaders with a background in industrial processing, renewable energy, biogas, anaerobic digestion, waste treatment or similar heavily regulated environments. To be successful, you will need: Significant experience managing industrial, energy or waste treatment plants Strong knowledge of anaerobic digestion, biological treatment systems and associated equipment Experience leading teams in a high-reliability operational environment A solid understanding of environmental compliance and health and safety legislation Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound operational decisions Experience managing budgets, reporting performance and delivering cost control Confidence dealing with regulatory bodies and presenting information to stakeholders A methodical, organised approach with strong attention to detail Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and plant or company-based systems Essential Qualifications COTC Level 4 in Anaerobic Digestion IOSH or NEBOSH Preferred Background Degree qualified in Engineering, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy or a related discipline Experience identifying and justifying capital improvement projects with clear ROI Working Pattern 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Travel between sites is required Occasional evening, weekend and emergency call-out support may be needed Why Apply?
