Job Description

Overview A Vacancy at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The BHOC provides Oncology and Haematology services to the former Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Network with a population of approximately 2.2 million people. BHOC houses D603, the inpatient oncology ward, D703, the inpatient haematology, BMT and IEC unit and the regional teenage and young adult unit, Area 61, as well as the Same Day Emergency Care unit where we receive direct admissions of unwell haematology and oncology patients. BHOC is also home to the Radiotherapy department and chemotherapy day unit providing a full range of treatments. Responsibilities The successful applicant will join ward teams, one based in haematology and two based in oncology, with some time working in both areas and on the SDEC unit. Responsibilities include care of inpatients on Haematology and/or Oncology wards (D603 and D703) including oncology, general haematology and bone marrow transplant patients; attending outpatient clinics, MDTs and meetings; and performing procedures such as ascitic and pleural drains, bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures. On‑Call Commitment Contribute to the on‑call SHO rota in BHOC—a mix of nights, long days, twilights and weekends, at a maximum frequency of 1 in 10 rota. Certain periods may have no on‑calls, with regular 9:00‑5:30 pm Monday to Friday shifts. Teaching and Training As a teaching Trust, weekly departmental education in Haematology and Oncology, joint Haematology & Oncology SHO teaching, and opportunities to deliver teaching to medical students and SHO colleagues are provided. Post holders may also join IMT education and MRCP teaching sessions. Additional Opportunities Access to a Trust Education Centre with library facilities, participation in clinical research, regular clinical trials and research governance meetings, audit work, and departmental academic programmes. Laboratory experience is available within the department.
