We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Endoscopy Support Worker to join our Decontamination team, based in the Sterile Services department at Scarborough hospital. The Sterile Services Department provides a vital service decontaminating and reprocessing surgical instruments for use on the wards and departments within the Trust. As a clinical support the department is operational 7 days a week to meet the demands of the hospital. Successful candidates will require an eagerness and ability to learn along with a good level of fitness. The role is physically demanding, lifting and handling medical devices. Also requires the ability to drive a Luton tail lift van to offsite facilities. Delivery of flexible endoscopes and medical devices requires a significant amount of walking and would suit someone who is used to being on their feet for long periods. Comprehensive in-house training will be delivered which successful candidates are expected to complete. The department is compliant to ISO 13485 Quality management System. Previous experience working with a quality system or in the decontamination is desirable but not essential. Please note: The successful candidate will be required to drive a tail lift Luton van, so a full clean driving license is essential for this role. Main duties of the job The support role is permanent 20 hours per week working between 14:00 hours to 22:00 hours per week, Monday to Friday and 1 in 4 weekends between the hours of 8:00 and 16:00, plus bank holidays on a rota. - Universal Precautions - Wear appropriate PPE to allow safe handling of contaminated equipment. - Exposure to infectious material and bodily fluids. - Maintain security of instruments at all times during transportation to and from clinical area. Scan all sets of instruments and endoscopes in and out of Sterile Services Unit (SSU) and in and out of all clinical storage areas, - Assist in the unwrapping and de-containerization of instrument sets in SSU. - Raise non-conformance reports where necessary e.g., on discovery of damaged instrument sets and any other medical equipment, Inform supervisors and technicians to action appropriately. Follow Trust policy (e.g., sharps) and Datix system for reporting incidents. - Develop a good understanding of customer requirements, employing flexible and pro-active approach aligned with the demands of the service. - Maintain all transport equipment reporting any damage or faults on discovery.
