Go back University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) Clinical Fellow Haematology / Oncology The closing date is 24 April 2026 The BHOC provides Oncology and Haematology services to the former Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Network with a population of approximately 2.2 million people. It houses D603, the inpatient oncology ward; D703, the inpatient haematology, BMT and IEC unit and the regional teenage and young adult (TYA) inpatient unit, Area 61; as well as the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit where we receive direct admissions of unwell haematology and oncology patients. The BHOC is also the home of the Radiotherapy department and a chemotherapy day unit providing a full range of treatments. The successful applicant will join our ward teams – one based in haematology and two based in oncology – and will also work in both areas and on our SDEC unit. The post holder will contribute to the on‑call SHO rota in BHOC, which includes nights, long days, twilights and weekends. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be responsible for the care of inpatients on the Haematology and/or Oncology wards (D603 and D703), including oncology, general haematology and bone marrow transplant patients. Attendance at outpatient clinics, MDTs and meetings is encouraged by the consultants. Post holders can gain experience performing procedures such as ascitic and pleural drains, bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures. On‑Call Commitment The post holder will contribute to the on‑call SHO rota in BHOC, a mix of nights, long days, twilights and weekends, with a maximum frequency of 1 in 10 rota. Periods without on‑calls will see the holder working 9:00‑17:30 Monday to Friday, with appropriate notice for changes in frequency. Teaching and Training This is a teaching Trust and regular teaching is timetabled in the post. This includes weekly departmental education within Haematology and Oncology, weekly joint Haematology & Oncology SHO teaching, and opportunities to join IMT education and MRCP teaching sessions. Post holders may also deliver teaching to medical students and SHO colleagues during their time with haematology and oncology. Job responsibilities Day‑to‑day clinical responsibilities are a significant part of the training offered to Clinical Fellows, with opportunities for informal clinical teaching as appropriate. All doctors are expected to undertake audit and to make a regular contribution to the departmental academic programme. There is an excellent Trust Education Centre with library facilities. Opportunities exist for participation in clinical research, clinical trials and research governance meetings. Laboratory experience is also available within the department.
