Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS TrustJunior Clinical Fellow in Oncology (ST1-2) Closing date:07 May 2026The Worcestershire Oncology Centre has been operational since August 2014 with local recruitment of Consultant Oncologists, Nurses, Radiographers, Physicists and support staff to ensure that patients can be treated locally for over 90% of their cancer treatment and care.Chemotherapy is delivered locally on the 3 Trust sites, Rowan Suite at Worcester Royal Hospital, the Garden Suite at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and the Millbrook Suite at Kidderminster Treatment Centre.Radiotherapy is delivered on the Worcester Royal Hospital site.The directorate includes Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care and has strong links with other specialties and clinical support services in the Trust.Main duties of the job This post provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in General Medicine and Oncology, and would be particularly suitable for candidates at level ST1-2 preparing to apply for specialist training in Medicine, Oncology, Haematology or Palliative Care. The postholder will contribute to ward‑based, day case and outpatient care of oncology patients. There will be ample training and supervision, and the opportunity to contribute to teaching, clinical research and audit.NHS experience is a requirement (Clinical Attachmentsdo notmeet this criteria).Job responsibilities You will join the junior grade rota within the clinical department which will include participating in the on‑call shift pattern to provide 24/7 services.You will be provided opportunities to join specialist out‑patient clinics and observe or assist the consultant or registrars with relevant procedures.Whilst these posts are not training posts, they are structured to provide a portfolio‑based Postgraduate Training Programme similar to the national training programme model. The Trust is committed to providing the medical training content.The successful candidate will be welcomed to join the weekly teaching sessions and Grand Rounds/Journal Clubs. In‑house training will be provided for PACES/membership of royal colleges examinations, and study leave will be available to help candidates prepare for the examinations. Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.Teaching Experience Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines. Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates. Ability to supervise postgraduate research.Emotional Effort & Other Requirements Ability to deal with emotional, frightened or hostile patients, relatives and students, both face to face and via telephone calls. Ability to support patients and relatives in breaking bad news whilst working in the clinical setting. Deal with patient requests and complaints. An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including overseas will also be accepted. Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty. Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.Management and Administrative Experience Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
