Go back University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ST1/2 (Senior House Officer) Core Trainee - Neurosurgery Closing date: 06 May 2026 Overview This post is designed for junior doctors interested in neurosurgery who wish to develop their skills and gain experience in general and spinal neurosurgery at a major centre of excellence. It is not recognised for formal training purposes but offers a supportive learning environment within the Core Trainee (CT1‑3) and Specialist Registrar programme. Job ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the Core Trainee (CT1‑3) and Specialist Registrar training programme. Attend educational activities to broaden clinical knowledge. Gain experience in general and spinal neurosurgery. Support multidisciplinary teams and supervise junior staff where appropriate.Eligibility, Qualifications and CompetenciesFull registration with the GMC and current licence to practise. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent. Ability to work independently in appropriate situations. Proficiency in manual procedures required for neurosurgery. Current ALS and acute emergency certification (e.g., ALERT, IMPACT). Language proficiency in English – either undergraduate training in English or IELTS scores of 7 in all sections. MRCS(UK) full diploma or equivalent.Experience and Skills – ClinicalExperience in general neurosurgery/neurology. Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination. Ability to manage acute medical emergencies.Experience and Skills – AcademicKnowledge of audit, evidence‑based practice, clinical risk management and research methodology. Involvement in research projects, audits or quality improvement initiatives. Evidence of academic publications.Experience and Skills – PersonalExcellent written and oral communication. Respectful teamwork and supervising junior staff. Professionalism: punctual, thorough and committed. Situational awareness and coping under pressure. Leadership and understanding of NHS resources.Commitment to SpecialtyDemonstrable interest and understanding of neurosurgery. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
