Communications Manager - Policy Communications & External AffairsLocation: Arlington, VA or New York, NYDuration: Full-time contract (April - October 2026)OverviewIntepros' valued client is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to support Policy Communications and External Affairs during a parental leave coverage period. This individual will lead strategic communications efforts, including media relations and campaign execution, to support policy and business objectives across the U.S.This role will focus heavily on state and local policy communications, driving awareness among media, policymakers, and key stakeholders while highlighting the organization's impact on customers and communities.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and execute strategic communications campaigns aligned with state and local policy initiativesDevelop and manage external communications programs and events supporting policy goalsBuild and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media outletsManage inbound media inquiries and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson when neededPartner with public policy teams to educate policymakers and media on key legislative and regulatory issuesProvide communications counsel on both short- and long-term policy challenges and opportunitiesPlan and execute events, including:Press briefings and press conferencesMedia and policymaker toursIndustry and stakeholder eventsCreate compelling content across channels, including:Op-eds and thought leadership piecesBlog posts and digital contentPrint and campaign collateralLead issues management and crisis communications effortsCollaborate cross-functionally to drive alignment and deliver results under tight deadlinesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree8+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relationsExperience supporting or working with public policy issues (corporate or government environment)Strong writing, messaging, and media engagement skillsProven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience serving as an on-the-record spokesperson on complex issuesBackground working with policy or political reportersStrong understanding of the legislative and regulatory processAbility to quickly learn and communicate complex policy topicsExperience collaborating across multiple teams and stakeholdersPrior experience supporting state and local communications campaigns
