Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant I to join our team on a contract basis in Santa Cruz, California. In this entry-level role, you will perform a variety of clerical accounting tasks while becoming familiar with organizational policies and procedures. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in financial operations and develop your skills in a supportive environment.*****• Process payments for various City services, including licenses, parking citations, taxes, and registrations, ensuring accuracy and timely recording.• Prepare bank deposits, reconcile cash receipts with daily reports, and maintain accurate financial records.• Manage accounts receivable by processing billing statements and applications for City programs.• Generate routine monthly and quarterly reports and draft correspondence related to assigned tasks.• Maintain organized filing systems, update records, and create new files as required.• Operate office equipment such as photocopiers and computers to input data, collate documents, and distribute materials.• Compute inter-department charges for services like vehicle repairs, mileage, and fuel usage.• Provide information to courts regarding citations and assist with related inquiries.• Monitor office supplies and materials, ensuring availability and running errands when needed.• Support general clerical duties such as sorting mail and distributing correspondence.• Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting or a related field.• Proficiency in accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes.• Ability to perform bank reconciliations with attention to detail.• Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.• Skill in coding invoices accurately and efficiently.• Strong organizational and time management abilities.• Excellent communication skills to provide information and resolve inquiries.• Basic computer literacy, including standard office software and data entry systems.
