A New York City-based social services agency is looking to add a new Entitlement Specialist to their growing team in Manhattan.About the Opportunity:Start Date: ASAPAssignment Length: OngoingSchedule: Monday to FridayHours: 9am to 5pm (1 hour lunch)Setting: Entitlement ProgramResponsibilities:Verify all persons served benefits and entitlements eligibility upon admission into programs Submit applications / re-certifications and manage daily correspondence received on behalf of persons servedKeep and maintain an active file on current and new persons servedManage Developmental Disabilities and Behavioral Health persons served current entitlements within agency's internal database Escort persons served to various government and city agenciesInvestigate and ensures resolution of all entitlementsAssist and follow-up on persons served correspondence received from various city and government agencies via phone, office visit, mail and/or faxProcess appeals and pursues legal channels to obtain funding for persons served who have been denied entitlementsKeep abreast of public policy issues and new developments in the field and communicate the same to managementMonitor and update various tracking spreadsheets and electronic health records (EHR's) for benefits and entitlements informationPerform other duties, as neededQualifications:High School Diploma / GEDKnowledge of Counseling principles and methods for Mental Illness and Substance Use DisordersKnowledge of Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Community Support programs as they relate to recipient/residents, families, and staffKnowledge of techniques for identifying, assessing, and preventing potentially violent behavior, including Crisis Management and De-escalation techniquesComputer savvyMicrosoft Office proficientDesired Skills:Associate's and/or Bachelor's DegreeExperience working with homeless and/or precariously housed populationsKnowledge of homeless resources, NYC shelter systems, and MTA transit systems
