About the Role:  Harlan Electric, a subsidiary of MYR Group,  is looking to add an Estimator to our Syracuse, NY team. Title and compensation will be based on experience. Associate Estimator – Entry-level opportunity designed for candidates with no prior estimating experience. Ideal for individuals interested in electrical construction who are eager to learn through a structured training and mentorship program while supporting cost estimates, reviewing project documents, and developing foundational estimating skills. Estimator – For candidates with 1–3 years of estimating experience preferably in electrical construction (transmission/distribution or commercial) or construction. This role involves preparing and analyzing project cost estimates, reviewing plans and specifications, and collaborating with project teams while continuing to grow technical and estimating expertise. Company Overview Established in 1940, Harlan Electric Company (Harlan Electric) – a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc. – has successfully completed hundreds of substation, transmission, distribution, live line, and clean energy projects across the upper Midwest and northeastern United States. Our specialized expertise, skilled workforce, and innovative practices enable us to be an industry leader supporting the clean energy transformation.Essential FunctionsPrepare or assist in preparing complete cost estimates for assigned for transmission, distribution and substation projectsPlan and execute work while meeting customer defined submission deadlinesSchedule and attend field job walk with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to determine constructability requirementsAttend on site pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits. This involves travel that can require overnight staysPerform or assist in performing take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparationSolicit material vendor pricing and subcontractor proposals including assembly and distribution of project documentation into RFQ/RFP packagesCompare various project documents for accuracy and consistencyParticipate in estimate review process with internal and external stake holdersAssist construction personnel throughout the project lifecycle in tracking and understanding basis of cost estimateAssist in the preparation and submission of change ordersParticipate in job close-out meetings at the end of a project to close any loops in the estimating processRegular and predictable attendanceOther duties as assignedEssential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field locationUnderstand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards About You:  QualificationsAbility to understand, and/or possess basic knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services - PreferredPreferred EducationConstruction Management or other undergraduate degree preferredHigh school diploma or GED requiredKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesProficient in Microsoft applications with emphasis on ExcelExcellent analytical and organizational skillsGood communication skills, including verbal, and writtenAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessaryAbility to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitudeAbility to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team playerAbility to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and othersStrong problem-solving skillsOrganizational skills What We Offer: Compensation & BenefitsSalaryCommensurate with experience, paid weekly.
