Entity: Production & OperationsJob Family Group: Operations GroupJob Description: As the Operations Specialist you'll provide operational subject matter expertise and Control Room Management (CRM) support across the entire Terminals & Pipelines Operations organization.  You’ll partner closely with controllers, field operations, engineering, projects, SCADA, and Leak Detection to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable pipeline operations.You’ll drive SCADA system support initiatives (including replacement/upgrade efforts), contribute to Operations Training Simulator (OTS) development and utilization for scenario‑based learning, and lead or support alarm management, controller training, incident investigations, QA activities, and continuous improvement efforts that strengthen operational excellence.This role is based in Renton, Washington at the bp Olympic Pipeline Renton Control Center and reports to the Control Centers ManagerKey Accountabilities:Model and uphold our Code of Conduct, Who We Are, and the Safety Leadership Principles.Foster a culture of collaboration, open communication, and accountability at all levels of the organization.Reinforce operating discipline through procedure use, continuous improvement, and self‑verification.Provide operational subject matter expertise across the T&P organization through supporting day-to-day operations, projects, risk reviews, and Management of Change (MOC).Participate in the development and utilization of the Operations Training Simulator (OTS) to enhance controller training and operational proficiency.Support the Leak Detection (LD) program by assisting the LD Engineer and Team Leads with operational subject matter expertise, program improvements, and advisory support.Support the Quality Assurance advisor with operational support, procedure reviews, self-verification, and interim coverage.Support investigation and learning processes by partnering with HSE&C to lead and support incident investigations, ensuring actions from incidents and near misses are embedded in training and procedures.Support compliance with PHMSA Control Room Management (CRM) requirements including alarm management, workload assessments, AOC reviews, OMER procedure updates, audit needs, and simulator-based training for upset conditions.Partner with SCADA on system support initiatives, providing operational input on functionality, alarm changes, HMI upgrades, point-to-point testing, and SCADA replacement project activities.Provide operational DOA coverage for the Team Lead as needed.Support a 24/7 operating business with situations requiring immediate operational attention; some travel required (~10%).You will work with:This role sits on the Control Centers Team with other Operations Specialists, Control Room Team Leaders, and Quality Assurance personnel.You will work with pipeline controllers, field teams, SCADA, engineering, and project team members to ensure delivery of Asset Team and Control Center priorities.You will regularly interface and collaborate with SCADA, Leak Detection, and OTS personnel who maintain and oversee the technology that enables our operations.You will work with the Quality Assurance Advisor to protect product quality and Compliance personnel to inform regulatory audit and reporting requirements.Sitting within the Terminals & Pipelines Operations organization, this role is a critical part of an asset team and partners with engineers, project managers, and HSE&C personnel to advance our mission of being the operator of choice for all hydrocarbon pipeline systems.Requirements:High school diploma or GED required; college degree beneficial.Proven experience in Pipeline Operations or in the energy industry.Working knowledge of SCADA systems, alarm management principles, and leak detection fundamentals is helpful.Familiarity with CRM requirements, DOT PHMSA regulations, controller training protocols, workload considerations, and alarm management practices.An adaptable, problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage concurrent tasks and navigate shifting priorities in a dynamic operating environment.Adaptable and effective problem solving and communication skills.Demonstrated aptitude for seeking out and delivering continuous improvement opportunities.Experience working with internal/external customers and building strong relationships across functional boundaries.Why join us! At bp, we support our people to learn and grow in a diverse and exciting environment. ($96,000 - $140,000)*Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees).
