The New York State Unified Court System Appellate Division, 2nd Department Mental Hygiene Legal Service is recruiting for one (1) position in the Attorney Series. The position will be filled in one of the following titles and will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the applicant selected: Associate Attorney, Senior Attorney, Attorney, or Assistant Attorney.Check you match the skill requirements for this role, as well as associated experience, then apply with your CV below.The Mental Hygiene Legal Service (“MHLS”) provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals with mental and developmental disabilities, and those alleged to be in need of mental health services, in legal matters including civil and criminal commitment, treatment over objection, guardianship, sex offender civil management, and assisted outpatient treatment. MHLS attorneys regularly appear in the New York courts in difficult cases concerning involuntary hospitalization and psychiatric treatment.Key Responsibilities: Frequent fieldwork, including meeting with clients at psychiatric hospitals, other facilities, or private residences.Advocating informally on behalf of clients and representing them at administrative hearings.Some litigation experience is preferred but not required.Qualifications: Associate Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Senior Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $110,853 + $4,920 Location PaySenior Attorney: Admission to the New York State bar and two (2) years of service in the Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $99,490 + $4,920 Location PayAttorney: Admission to the New York State bar. Base Salary: 84,659 + $4,920 Location PayAssistant Attorney: Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment. Base Salary: $76,112 + $4,920 Location PayTo be qualified for this position, you must have a valid driver’s license and a properly registered automobile for use in performing official duties away from your assigned station.
