A contracted, part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed for a K-12 school located in Pawtucket, RI. This role involves supporting students with visual impairments to develop safe and effective travel skills in various environments.While professional experience and qualifications are key for this role, make sure to check you have the preferable soft skills before applying if required.Key Responsibilities:Conduct assessments to determine students mobility needs and abilitiesDevelop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plansProvide direct instruction in travel techniques using canes, guide dogs, or other methodsCollaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to promote student independenceAssist with training on the use of adaptive equipment and technologyQualifications and Desired Experience:Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent)Experience working with school-aged children, preferably K-12Knowledge of current best practices in orientation and mobility instructionStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to adapt instruction to meet individual student needsLocation: Pawtucket, Rhode IslandEmployment Type: Contract, part-time; client is currently finalizing specific details.This position offers the opportunity to support student independence and mobility within a dynamic school setting.
