This position requires the ability to "sell" service and bill appropriately. This means presenting customers with detailed quotes with our recommendations to keep their bikes running perfectly.Example: A customer comes in and needs their brakes bled. Instead of just bleeding their brakes for $35 per brake, we need to evaluate their brake pads. Replacing pads when resetting the pistons during a bleed is always good idea. Additionally, we need to evaluate the brake rotors. Are the rotors nearing minimal thickness/thinness? Are they cut up or glazed? Being thorough here can turn a $70 repair into a $250+ repair quickly. Our customers want to be on their bikes and riding. By taking care of everything brake-related during this visit, they won't have to worry about their brakes in three weeks after they burn through the remainder of the brake pads. Yes, we are "selling" service in this example, but we are setting customers up for success and reducing unnecessary visits to the shop. We aren't doing our job well if we just do the band-aid brake bleed fix and ignore the worn brake pads or questionable rotor. Our job is to present customer with the information to keep their bikes running as smoothly as possible. The other key element is ensuring our labor rate is being charged for every single repair. We cannot give away our time. If our labor rate is $75/hour, we need to charge the appropriate labor rate for every single repair.Responsibilities:-Utilize tremendous customer service/people skills. This is absolutely essential. We have worked very hard to build our reputation for being personable and approachable. We know our customer's names, we care about their stories, their riding trips, and their day. Bike-snobbery is not welcome-Oversee the repair of all bikes in a professional manner.-Work with our master mechanic to ensure we are providing the best possible customer experience.-Utilize our P.O.S. system and communication system to present customers with quotes and recommendations based on what the bikes need without being too "salesy". Ensure we are billing appropriately.-Monitor and correct efficiency in the shop.--Ensure back shop is set up in an organized and efficient way that reduces time spent looking for that specialty tool or part.-Set up a repair intake system that is efficient and thorough-Manage repair inventory and work within a budget to keep repair parts stocked. This is absolutely non-negotiable*Qualifications*- A high level of confidence executing complex bike repairs. This is obvious, but we need a strong mechanic that can complete any complex task on any bike (wheel building, rebuilding hydraulic brake levers, troubleshooting a high-end drivetrain) with confidence. This is not a position where the person should be learning new mechanical skills. That said, we welcome candidates who want to grow their management skills and develop new processes while working directly with ownership-Superb customer relations abilities.-Obsessive attention to detail. We need to be thorough when sending service quotes to customer. This includes making sure everything we put on a bike, and the corresponding labor, is accounted for. Did that shift cable you installed make it on the workorder? Did you charge for that chain pin when shortening a chain?-Excellent organizational skills.-Strong written and verbal communication skills.Compensation:-The pay range for this position is $22-$27 per hour, depending on relevant experience.-Bonus structure possible for predetermined goalsSchedule:We are open seven days a week from 9-5 from March to November.
