The Admission Counselor is a full-time, year-round position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $51,986 to $52,500.The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Admission Counselor serves as a voting member of the Admission Committee, represents Amherst in outreach efforts, and contributes meaningfully to the College's commitment to access, diversity, and inclusion.The Admission Counselor plays a key role in the Admission Office and the Visitor Relations team. As part of Visitor Relations, the Counselor helps design and implement high-impact recruitment and yield initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admission, the Admission Counselor supports the operations of campus visit programs, including tours, information sessions, and open houses, ensuring that every visitor experiences Amherst as a welcoming and inclusive community.This full-time, year-round position is primarily on campus, with potential for limited participation in the College's hybrid work program. The role includes several weeks of annual recruitment travel, including visits to high schools, community-based organizations, and student programs. Evening and weekend work is occasionally required.Summary of Responsibilities:Recruitment and AdmissionReview and evaluate thousands of applications for first-year admissionServe as a full voting member of the admission committeeLead information sessions for prospective students and familiesRegularly serve as a dean-on-duty, counseling walk-in visitors and answering elevated questions via phone and emailIndependently plan and schedule recruitment activities in regions across the United StatesVisitor RelationsPlay a collaborative and managerial role in all campus visitor programs, including information sessions and campus toursCollaboratively recruit, hire, train, and manage an outstanding and diverse group of paid student tour guidesAssist with the planning and execution of open house and yield eventsCollaborate across departments to ensure a welcoming and inclusive campus visit experience Serve as a thoughtful leader and creative partner within the Visitor Relations teamQualifications:RequiredBachelor's DegreeValid Driver's License and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehiclesExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of constituencies, including prospective students, families, counselors, alumni, faculty, and staffStrong ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts education to diverse audiences with clarity, enthusiasm, and cultural awarenessProficiency with technology and digital tools, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new software and systemsDemonstrated organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentSound judgment, discretion, and the ability to think independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative, dynamic teamCommitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, and an understanding of how these values inform the work of college admissionWillingness and ability to travel several weeks per year and to work occasional evenings and weekendsSuccessful completion of required reference and background checksAn acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) checkPreferredBachelor's Degree from Amherst CollegeInterested candidates are asked to submit a resume and cover letter online at Please be sure to upload all requested documents prior to clicking Submit.
