Job Description

Overview:Carle Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our growing Critical Care team at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.The Critical Care APP works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The APP provides healthcare in critical care settings, including critical care (trauma, neuro, med/surg) and cardiovascular ICUs. The Carle Health Critical Care APP has didactic education, clinical competency, and national certification in identified areas of clinical practice. The Critical Care APP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, and timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.Responsibilities: Initiates and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient's current status. Provides health assessment for patients directed toward continuing a state of wellness, establishing the need for intervention, evaluating responses to and outcomes of therapy, and following a mutually agreed upon treatment plan. Provides leadership in the synthesis of data and coordination of multidisciplinary health care for integrated delivery of patient care services. Assess, diagnose, develop treatment plan, implement treatment plan, and perform follow up and evaluation using scientific process and national standards of care. Prescriptive authority as delegated by the collaborating/supervising physician consisting of prescription of, selection of, orders for, administration of, storage of, and dispensing over the counter medications, legend drugs, medical gases, and controlled substances categorized as any Schedule II through V controlled substances,(schedule II requires separate application collaborative physician signature to that application). Provide specialty consults. Write admission orders as requested by the accepting or admitting physician per organization policies and procedures. Ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures, performing those tests and procedures when using health care equipment, and interpreting and using the results of diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures. Provide patient/family education and counseling. Participates in continuing education and/or continuing medical education as required by licensing body and medical staff bylaws. Perform procedures including but not limited to: Repositioning of Swan Ganz or left arterial lines, removal of chest tube, arterial line placement, central line placement, PICC line placement. Moderate sedation under direct supervision of physician with moderate sedation privileges Responds to code 99. Communicates with other health professionals, families, and referral agencies regarding health status and needs of particular patients or patient groups. Enhance and support GME resident ICU development and education. Facilitates and attends CCT MM, CCT APP and Critical Care Team monthly meetings.
