*Summary*The Feedlot General Manager is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day leadership of a 24,000-head cattle feedlot. This role demands a balance of operational oversight, team leadership, and strategic planning to ensure optimal cattle performance, profitability, and compliance with industry standards. The General Manager will supervise multiple department heads and drive performance across feeding, animal health, maintenance, and facility management.Pay dependent upon experience and education*Responsibilities:**1. Strategic Leadership** Develop and implement short and long-term goals for feedlot performance* Lead capital improvement and infrastructure projects in coordination with ownership* Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational areas*2. Operational Oversight** Direct all daily feedlot activities, including feeding, cattle doctoring, pen maintenance, processing, and shipping* Ensure implementation and compliance with standard operating procedures* Monitor key performance indicators such as average daily gain, mortality rates, treatment rates, and feed efficiency* Coordinate logistics and records for incoming and outgoing cattle*3. Staff Management** Manage and train department heads which may include: feed, cattle, shop, and maintenance* Develop schedules and ensure adequate labor allocation* Cultivate a safe, productive, and collaborative work environment* Conduct performance reviews and mentor future leaders*4. Animal Health and Welfare** Collaborate with veterinarian, nutritionist, and cattle team to implement animal health protocols* Oversee treatment programs, monitor mortality trends, and ensure humane handling* Ensure compliance with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) or similar welfare certifications*5. Feed and Nutrition Management** Partner with nutritionist to formulate, review, and adjust rations as needed* Monitor feed inventories, quality control, and delivery systems* Ensure feed mixing and delivery equipment is maintained and calibrated properly*6. Financial Management** Develop and manage annual operating budgets* Track financial metrics, including yardage, feed margin, labor cost and equipment and maintenance costs* Implement capital and operational expenditures within delegated authority*7. Compliance and Record Keeping** Ensure feedlot operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations* Maintain documentation for traceability, performance tracking, and audit readiness* Ensure employee training and safety compliance across all departments*8. Equipment and Facility Maintenance** Oversee maintenance of pens, water systems, buildings, and machinery* Anticipate and plan for seasonal operational challenges (e.g., mud, snow, heat stress)* Lead preventative maintenance initiatives to minimize downtime*9.
