Job Title:Industrial Sewing SupervisorType of Position:DIRECT HIREJob Location:Grand Rapids, MI (on-site role).Compensation:$25.00/hr to $30.00/hr (depending on experience). We also provide a 401k (with a match), and a generous PTO packing (including paid holidays).Job Description:HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a safety-equipment company that designs and manufactures high-performance PPE (personal protective equipment) with a focus on gloves and protective wear. Our company specialized in cut, puncture, needle, impact, and abrasion resistance. Were seeking to hire an Industrial Sewing Machine Operator Supervisor. This role will oversee a team of sewing machine operators to ensure efficient and high-quality production of sewn products. You will coordinate daily operations, train team members, and maintain a safe, productive work environment. You will also operate machines, guiding products or product parts under machine needles and presser foot pedals to proficiently use several types of sewing machines to construct complete products. This individual should be familiar with various seam and stitch types and able to train trainers, supervisors, and peers in complex operations.Responsibilities:Motivate and lead a team of sewing machine operators, providing guidance and support to achieve production goals.Train new operators on sewing techniques, machine operation, and safety protocols, ensuring all team members meet quality standards.Monitor workflow and production processes, adjusting schedules and assignments to optimize efficiency and meet deadlines.Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to specifications; address any quality issues with the team and implement corrective actions.Serve as backup operator for custom product orders.Operate various types of heavy-duty sewing equipment, including single- or double-needle surging, union special, basic and automated machines, and bar tacking machines.Proficiently perform multiple medium or difficult sewing steps with 80% or higher proficiency in two or more product lines; ability to set up new product lines.Set up, adjust, and operate laser cutting machines to cut and shape materials.Interpret technical drawings and work orders to determine cutting requirements.Optimize machine settings for material type, thickness, and job requirements.Promote a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and conducting regular safety training.Maintain production records and report on team performance, productivity metrics, and quality issues.Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist with developing and implementing best practices and SOPs.Qualifications / Requirements:High school diploma or GED is required at a minimum; additional training in sewing or textile production preferred.3 to 5 years of experience in industrial sewing required.1+ year(s) in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.Proficiency in operating various types of industrial sewing machines; knowledge of fabric types and sewing techniques.Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members.Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, and volume; perform basic math calculations.Ability to use a tape measure for product measurement.Work Environment / Other Info:This will be a 1st (day) shift role. Typical hours will be 6:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday.There may be occasional overtime on a volunteer basis (often if help is needed in other areas).Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.A background check may be required for employment.
