*Job Summary*The Resident Advisor position at Galena Interior Learning Academy (GILA) is a full-time professional position and works with high school boarding students. The Resident Advisors are the first and primary point of contact for our boarding school students. Each Resident Advisor is given a group of 18-25 students that they are responsible for checking in with on a regular basis. Resident Advisors communicate with parents and keep them updated on their student's progress while at GILA. Resident Advisors are also responsible for planning and overseeing daily, weekly, and monthly programs and activities that address the social-emotional needs of our students. *Room and board are provided by GCSD for this position while school is in session.**Responsibilities** Work cooperatively with the Residence Life staff to maintain a structured, supportive, living and learning environment within the residence halls, and to develop a strong sense of community.* Manage student behavior and take disciplinary action to enforce the GILA code of conduct.* Maintain complete documentation of behavioral, health-related, and other incidents as they occur.* Maintain close interpersonal contact with students, make appropriate counseling, health, and academic referrals as needed.* Work to build positive assets in each resident during their stay in the residence hall.* Serve as a mentor and positive role model to all student residents of the residence hall.* Contribute to the design and implementation of daily student programming as established by the Resident Advisors - Programming.* Ensure that residents adhere to residence hall policies and daily schedules.* Contact the parents of each assigned resident monthly in writing to update them on the endeavors, behavior, well-being, and development of their child.* Design corridor bulletin boards and passive programming monthly.* Perform duty responsibilities on scheduled duty dates.* Attend bi-weekly Residence Life meetings.* Submit formal, typed weekly reports to the Residence Life Administrator.* Meet monthly with Residence Life Administrator.* Complete any other tasks necessary to achieve the objectives of the Residence Life staff and the GILA administration, as deemed necessary by the Residence Life Administrator.* Perform other duties as assigned.*Skills** Strong understanding of direct support techniques in a residential life setting.* Experience in education or residence life is highly desirable.* Knowledge of first aid practices and ability to respond effectively in emergencies.* Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with students and team members.* Compassionate demeanor with a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of others through personal care.* Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated.The Resident Advisor plays a crucial role in providing direct support to students in a residential school setting.
