*Livingston School District**Job Description**Job Title: Cooks- (includes: Hot lunch, Ala Carte, Baker and Salad Bar)**Reports To: *Food Service Director (FSD)*Evaluated By: *Food Service Director*JOB GOAL: *To assist the FSD in the development of school lunches served at Livingston Public Schools along with preparing food on a daily basis as stated on the monthly menu that are nutritious, appealing, and delicious. Meals will be evaluated by customer input and server evaluation through FSD.*District Collaborative philosophy: *It is the expectation for everyone to help out for the good of overall operation when/where it is feasible. General guideline for assistance:- It does not cause those who you are assisting to be enabled or non-productive.- It does not prevent the person assisting to compromise his/her own work quality.*REQUIREMENTS: *To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.1. Prior experience in the preparation and serving of foods in a school lunchroom or in a restaurant settingpreferred2. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally andin writing) with students, staff, and general public3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with speed and accuracy4. Ability to assist in the planning and preparing of food for the proper nutritional needs ofchildren within the requirements of the National School Lunch Program5. Ability to carry out duties in the absence of the FSD6. Knowledge of proper nutrition, food storage, and the operation of the kitchen equipment7. Knowledge of methods of preparing foods, including meats and other main dishes, salads,sandwiches, side dishes and desserts within the requirements of the National School Lunch Program8. Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safe work practices and ability to maintain cleanliness,practice good personal hygiene and attend ServSafe class within the first three months of employment9. Perform physical requirements which may include:A. Moderate degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.B. Frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and prolonged periods of standingC. Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, and sharp and moving equipmentD. Requires coordination and dexterity to prepare foodsE. Ability to move freely around the kitchen and storage areas to perform food preparation and food serving duties10. Ability to supervise student helpers who work in the kitchen/cafeteria11. Such alternative to the above requirements as the Administration maydeem appropriate and acceptable.*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *Other duties may also be assigned.1. Prepares food according to the planned menu using the highest standards provided by the FSD2. Maintains the highest work site standards for day-to-day preparation and serving offoods, and in the set-up and cleaning of equipment, utensils, and food storage areas3. Daily inspection of kitchen cleanliness, sanitation and safe operation of equipment, includingproper equipment shutdown at the end of each shift, inspect proper storage of fooditems each day4. Responsible for determining the quantity of food to be prepared daily● Prepare proper amount of food according to daily lunch counts● Provide sample serving when deemed necessary● Fill out Receiving and Production sheets accurately5. Responsible for the preparation of the grocery list –specific to NSLP preparation● Responsible for verifying that products and proper quantities have been delivered and put away each week6. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information aboutstudents and staff7. Ensure that the food prepared is pleasing to sight and taste8. Reports any substandard or poor quality food to the FSD9. Responsible for the proper storage and disposal of unused food● Responsible for all leftover food returned to main kitchen after service● Responsible for all leftover food from PHS lunch service● Food must be labeled and dated and stored properly10. Act as a friendly ambassador for the Livingston School District11. Responsible for the immediate/proper storage of all frozen foods at the time of delivery12. Responsible for month-end inventory set by the FSD13. Assists in putting away stock upon arrival14. Ensure labeling of all containers to be put in freezers/coolers with date and contents marked clearly15. Perform tasks requested by the Food Service Director16. Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations17. Responsible for weekly inventory and ordering for satellite schools (to be done on Thursday afternoons) Salad bar, Hot lunch items, Ala carte items. Food and non- food items.Ala Carte:1. Responsible for Breakfast/ Lunch prep and service. Cashier.2. Ala Carte area cleanliness, such as cupboards, refrigerator, steam table, and ovens used.3. Cleaning and sanitizing of cafeteria tables and microwaves at end of lunches.Salad Bar:1. Responsible for food and non food items pertaining to the Salad Bar, cleanliness of area, sinks, stove, work tables and refrigerator.2. Replenishing salad bar items during lunch periods.3. Cleaning and sanitizing of salad bar and cafeteria tables at end of lunches.4. Ordering milk for PHS and Washington schools.5. Cleaning and stocking of milk cooler as needed.Main and Side Dish cooks/ Baker:1. Responsible for hot lunch prep and service. Line setup and break down2. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of all central kitchen spaces, ovens, steamer, sink, work tables and steam tables, cooking pots, braiser, ect.3.
