*Magic Mountain Ski Patrol **Job Description**Title:* Ski Patrol (Alpine Patroller) Volunteer Hill Chief / Deputy Director (Paid/Volunteer)Version 2022*Summary: **Assist the Patrol Director with daily operations and administrative duties. Organizing, leading, running Magic Mountain Ski Patrol under the direction of the director while compliant to normal patrol requirements.*To provide for and ensure a reasonably safe skiing environment for our guests and fellow employees. To provide medical assistance and evacuation, skier safety, search and rescue support, trail maintenance, lift evacuation, duty station responsibilities, equipment maintenance, and other assigned duties. Each task requires a high level of decision making. Outdoor Emergency Care Technician certification, Professional CPR and strong alpine skiing skills are minimum requirements. Commit to training and required weekend commitment.*Volunteer / Paid Details:** Functions as an ambassador of Magic Mountain, modeling and sharing the Magic "culture" with our guests and employees. Upholds the most professional image. Continually strives to exceed our guest's expectations and create memories for our guests and staff.* Mentor and train patrollers to current time requirements, staying up to date with operational and industry, OSHA, and insurance trends.* Medical assessment, treatment and evacuation. All volunteers will be National Ski Patrol OEC certified and trained to respond to any likely eventuality in a winter alpine environment. Training in Mountain Emergency Plan, triage, medical and multi-system trauma emergencies.* Reporting/documentation: Incident investigation procedure, preservation of the facts, forms and records. All volunteers will be familiar with (and held accountable for) the complete documentation of a given event that might include standard reporting, photographs, witness statements, diagrams, etc. This is a very labor-intensive, time-consuming activity. Considerable training is required, as well as the necessity to remain sensitive to the needs of family and friends of the injured party. Complies with all OSHA and HIPAA requirements.* Establish a reasonably safe skiing environment; i.e. trail checks, trail openings/closings, early season preparation, boot packing, maintenance, obstacle marking, signage, shoveling, sweeps, and special race preparation and coverage.* Snow safety: All volunteers will be familiar with the terrain at Magic Mountain where search and rescue is likely.* Search and rescue: All volunteers must know about the formulation of a preplan (Mountain Emergency Plan), practice drills, and execution. Skilled in the use of all search and rescue equipment. Must assist in locating lost parties on the mountain.* Lift evacuation: Responsible for the evacuation of people from the lift in the event of a breakdown. Specialized training in the form of ski industry standard equipment for emergency evacuation of chair lifts and injured parties.* Skier education: Enforcement of the skier codes, i.e., boundary management, safe skiing, speeder control. Visible to the public for skier information. Guest Service program: base area public relations, distribution of surveys, skier information services, VIP tours and greeting guests at the tops of lifts.* Training/development: All staff will participate in training and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of patrolling. This constant and ongoing process includes medical preparation, lift evacuation, rope rescue, mountain/company policies, inter-agency relations and contacts, etc. Ski improvement through all terrain with varying snow conditions.* Construction, maintenance, preventive maintenance inspections of equipment (duty stations, toboggans, medical, search and rescue, and radios.).* Integration with other Magic Mountain departments for smoother functioning within the company. Orientation of volunteers in areas of mountain safety awareness.* Fundraising: Assist with raising funds for operational funding of the Ski Patrol and mountain.* Ski/Snowboard ability at the expert level.* Have a working knowledge and ability to follow the chain of command and work with in reporting to direct supervisors, and taking orders from Ski Patrol Management staff.* Ability to function alone with limited resources at times and instruct bystanders or other staff working through the situation alone.*Personal Attributes:** Ability to lead and command in a high speed and stressed situation when needed.* Is honest and has the highest integrity* Is able to handle and manage confidential information* Professional appearance. Has good follow-through and makes it a habit of getting back to people on issues.* Can handle fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment* Is flexible with hours and days of volunteering* Is able to volunteer required time to fulfill patrol needs (both scheduled and unscheduled time).* Prioritizes and re-prioritizes personal time and volunteering, to have good balance in life*Minimum Age Required for this Position*21*Job Requirements**Basic Requirements:** Assist Patrol Director with operational and management duties for patrol, and have the ability to fill in the absence of the Patrol Director.* 3-5+ years patrol experience* Must be able to lift and carry toboggans weighing as much as 70 lbs. or more.* Other tasks include skiing in difficult conditions, volunteering in cold and often inclement conditions, mountain terrain, carrying and transporting unwieldy materials such as bam boo, signs, medical equipment, etc. No current physical limitations.* Ability to volunteer in mountain terrain and adverse cold weather environmental conditions.* Must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to hear skiers requesting assistance, and for communication to occur using radios and telephones.* Must be at least 21 years of age.* Basic knowledge and ability to use ropes in rescue situations* Knowledge of mountain and lift operations.* OEC Technician, Professional CPR, and strong alpine skiing background are minimum requirements.* NSP full Alpine Senior certification, Instructor Development, NIMS 700, 100, & 200* Ability to operate swiftly under high stress situations and make safe sound decisions during critical events/times.* Ability to obtain OEC instructor / Trainer-Evaluator or Instructor Trainer* Minimum OSHA 10*Preferred Experience & Skills:** Previous patrolling experience, previously experience within the medical, rescue, or back country field.* Mountaineering background.* NIMS 300 & 400* NSP classes AVY 1, MTR 1,* Management experience* OET instructor.* Knowledge of Magic Mountain geographic, operations, and patrol daily duties and functions.* Industry experience, i.e. ski instructor, mountain ops.Ski Magic, LLC is an affirmative action employer and that age, color, disability, gender identity, genetic information, military or veteran status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or any other applicable status protected by state or local law, are not taken into account in any employment decision.
