First Roots-Wild Roots is hiring for a teacher that can cover two back to back maternity leaves. We are hiring for a December start date. The teacher would work from December to March as a preschool teacher, float from March to May, and then transition into an infant teacher from May-September, finishing up as a float until December or being hired as a full time employee.*Mission Statement*First Roots - Wild Roots is a 5 STAR nature based early education program serving children ages 6 weeks to 8 years. This position is a one year contract that will start with preschool and then will transition into an infant classroom, with the potential for hiring full time when the one year term is up. The teacher prepares group snacks, materials for activities, and ensures that all children are included, engaged, safe and happy. The teacher serves as a positive role model for all children, upholds the mission of First Roots - Wild Roots, and actively participates in staff training and meetings to ensure the highest quality learning experience for their own professional development as well as the development of every child.*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*This position requires flexibility from the employee. Duties will vary, and include the following under the direction of co-teachers, the coach and/or Director:* Supervising and interacting with children in a nurturing and respectful manner in the classroom and on the playground.* Tending to diapering, toileting, feeding and dressing needs of the children, and supporting independence and autonomy as developmentally appropriate.* Helping with curriculum preparations, provisioning resources, and/or general classroom needs.* Supporting the classroom with light cleaning duties such as sweeping, washing dishes, disinfecting counters, and taking out trash/recycling at the end of some days.* To know and follow the VT State Center Based Child Care Program regulations at all times.*Required Skills and Abilities** Excellent rapport with young children, a sense of humor and an authentic disposition toward helping children learn through play and hands-on activities.* Display a nurturing, compassionate and professional demeanor at all times.* Flexibility and the ability to manage different schedules.* Be punctual and prepared.* Have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other staff members.* Have own transportation.*Preferred Experience and Qualifications** B.A.or Associates in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, Ecology, Environmental Humanities, or Environmental Education, Psychology, Social Work, Physical Education or Visual Arts a plus.
