*Job Description**Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church**Director of Music*The Director of Music shall serve as a spiritual leader at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, managing, directing, and supervising all aspects of the music program.*Administrative Duties** Submit weekly musical selections in a timely manner to the Pastor and Office Manager for inclusion in service bulletins.* Communicate with the congregation through e-mail, website, face-to-face conversations, and social media to promote the music program.* Select and order new music; maintain the choral music library and all other music department equipment.* Attend regular staff meetings, Worship and Music Committee meetings, and other church meetings as necessary to collaborate and represent the musical programs of the church.* Prepare and manage the annual budget for the music program.* Follow all personnel policies of the church, including completing training sessions required to comply with the church’s policies on sexual abuse and misconduct.* Consult weekly with the Pastor to coordinate music with the scriptural/sermon theme.* Report music used during services to the appropriate licensing agency.*Music Program Responsibilities** Provide primary leadership in planning and leading music for worship services and other church activities requiring music.* Recruit, develop, and encourage volunteer choir members, a core ensemble of instrumentalists, and lead vocalists with the ability to train non-professional musicians in music of varied difficulty.* Conduct all regularly scheduled choir rehearsals (once per week from mid-August through mid-June), including making necessary preparations beforehand.* Schedule additional rehearsals, including those with soloists and/or instrumentalists, as needed.* Prepare and conduct music for special services, including special worship services such as Christmas Eve and Holy Week.* Manage and expand the music program by seeking new ways to involve the congregation, introducing new hymns in coordination with pastoral staff, and incorporating music that reflects the skills and tastes of the congregation.* Solicit and support additional vocal or instrumental performances by members of the congregation and community to expand Sunday offerings, draw in new participants, and foster diversity in the music program.* Oversee the operation of the church’s sound systems, working with the sound technician to ensure proper operation, and recommend necessary purchases through the Worship and Music Committee and Session.* Serve as piano accompanist for the choir, vocalists, musicians, and congregation as needed, with primary responsibility for accompaniment during June through August. (Ability to play organ is highly desirable.)*Vision for the Future*The Director of Music will help shape the future of the church’s worship by crafting a dynamic and diverse music ministry that strengthens congregational life and draws in people of all ages. Key elements of this vision include:* Planning a balanced mix of traditional, praise, and contemporary music for worship services.* Gradually introducing new music to the congregation using the piano, the choir, soloists, and repetition before congregational singing.* Incorporating youth into worship through music, including outreach to local schools and groups to encourage participation (e.g., student performances prior to UIL competitions or recitals).* Developing ensembles of vocalists and instrumentalists to increase variety and creativity in worship.*Accountability and Supervision** The Director of Music is responsible to and supervised by the Senior Pastor (Head of Staff).* The Director will maintain a close working relationship with the Worship and Music Committee.* The Director will be expected to work with and lead a variety of people in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.* An annual review will be conducted by the Head of Staff in conjunction with the Personnel Committee of the Session.*Compensation and Benefits** Salary is commensurate with education and experience.* Vacation: 4 weeks paid vacation (4 Sundays and 4 rehearsals) per year.* Sick Leave: 2 Sundays per year.* Continuing Education: Up to 1 week supported (up to $250) with advanced request and approval by the Head of Staff and Personnel Committee.* Other Leave: Considered personal leave and taken at the Director’s expense.* Vacation and absences must be scheduled in advance with Head of Staff approval.* The Director of Music is responsible for securing a suitable substitute during absences.Job Type: Part-timePay: $20,000.00 - $25,750.00 per yearExpected hours: 15 per weekBenefits:* Paid time offWork Location: In person
