Officers supervise offenders, enforce facility rules, prevent disturbances, and respond to emergencies to ensure a secure and controlled environment for staff, inmates, and visitors.*Primary Responsibilities** *Supervise and monitor offenders* in living quarters, dining areas, classrooms, work details, and recreational spaces* *Maintain discipline and control*, enforcing rules and behavioral expectations* *Escort offenders* within the facility and offsite as necessary* *Conduct inmate counts, pat-downs, and area searches* to prevent contraband or escape attempts* *Observe, document, and report behavioral changes or security concerns** *Counsel offenders* to encourage positive behavior and compliance* *Respond to emergencies* and follow established contingency plans* *Patrol facility interior and perimeter*, ensuring all buildings and grounds remain secure* *Operate emergency equipment* and perform *first aid or CPR* as needed* *Enforce security procedures* involving keys, radios, tools, and controlled items* *Use approved Handle With Care techniques* to restrain or subdue inmates when necessary*Essential Skills & Competencies** Strong *observation, communication, and problem-solving* abilities* Ability to *remain alert and calm under pressure** Proficiency in *security operations* and *conflict resolution** Physically capable of standing, walking, climbing, and reacting quickly in emergencies* Commitment to *professionalism, integrity, and teamwork**Preferred Qualifications** *Certification as a Corrections Officer* by the Kansas Secretary of Corrections (upon completion of Basic Training; renewed annually)* *CPR and First Aid certification** Prior experience in *law enforcement, security, or military service**Equal Employment Opportunity*The *State of Kansas* is an *Equal Opportunity Employer* committed to *diversity, equity, and inclusion*.
