*Who we are:*Join the team at the Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP), the flagship facility for the Wyoming Department of Corrections. WSP is committed to safe, secure, and humane incarceration while providing opportunities for rehabilitation and reentry. This full-time Correctional Officer position is considered law enforcement under Wyoming statute, offering a structured career path and eligibility for the 20-year retirement plan.*Key Responsibilities:** Enforce and uphold all institutional rules, regulations and posted orders to maintain facility security.* Supervise offender activities in living units, work assignments, program areas and recreational spaces; model pro-social behavior and de-escalate incidents when they arise.* Conduct frequent security searches of inmate living quarters, work areas and perimeter fences; monitor movement of offenders and staff throughout the facility.* Perform scheduled counts of inmates, verify identities, and maintain an accurate awareness of offender locations and conditions.* Respond to emergencies, disturbances or medical incidents; apply minimum force when required and assist with transport of offenders intra- and inter-facility.* Process newly admitted and released offenders; complete required logs, reports and shift briefings; attend training and maintain certification as required by the Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission.* Operate in a shift environment including nights, weekends and holidays; overtime and special assignments may be required.*Minimum Qualifications:** U.S. citizen, minimum age 18, valid driver’s license.* High school diploma or GED.* No felony convictions or domestic violence offenses.* Previous correctional, law enforcement or security experience is preferred, but entry-level candidates will be considered.* Successful completion of a background check, psychological/medical evaluation, physical fitness test and drug screen.* Must obtain Wyoming POST Correctional Officer certification within one year of hire and maintain certification thereafter.*Working Conditions & Additional Notes:** This is a non-exempt, shift-based position subject to overtime and exigent staffing.* The facility operates under a tobacco-free policy—no tobacco or alternatives permitted.* Uniforms, body-art/tattoo policy, piercings and facial hair are subject to Department guidelines.* Employment contingent on passing pre-employment screenings and meeting facility standard of conduct.*Benefits & Career Path:** Participation in the state retirement system with eligibility for 20-year retirement plan after required service.* Health, dental, vision and life insurance; paid holidays, vacation and sick leave; tuition reimbursement; 457 deferred compensation plan; and longevity pay.* Opportunity for upward mobility into senior correctional officer, sergeant and administrative positions.* A meaningful career protecting public safety, facilitating rehabilitation and serving the community of Wyoming.*Equal Opportunity Employer:*The State of Wyoming is an Equal Opportunity Employer and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants with disabilities.Job Type: Full-timePay: $25.26 per hourBenefits:* Dental insurance* Flexible schedule* Health insurance* Life insurance* Paid time off* Retirement plan* Vision insuranceWork Location: In person
