*Position Purpose*Head Counselors (HCs) serve as the primary caregivers and leaders for campers at Saginaw Day Camp. HCs are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and implementing activities while guiding campers in personal growth and daily living skills. This role supports the mission of Saginaw Day Camp through leadership in programming, human resources, staff training, marketing support, strategic operations, and hands-on supervision of campers and staff across both athletic and non-athletic programs.*Essential Job FunctionsCamper Supervision & Care*· Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers within assigned units, activities, and throughout the camp day to achieve intended camper outcomes· Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times· Provide daily care for each camper, recognizing and responding to physical, emotional, and social needs· Be alert to campers’ needs and assist with personal and/or health concerns, communicating with the Camp Health Manager and/or Camp Director when appropriate· Ensure campers receive medications as directed by the Health Care Manager when required*Program Leadership & Implementation*· Participate in the development and implementation of program activities aligned with SDC’s mission and outcomes· Lead and assist in the instruction of activities· Actively participate in all assigned program areas· Provide progression of activities that reflect individual and group interests and abilities· Assist in program areas including waterfront, nature, athletics, arts and crafts, and all-camp activities as directed*Youth Development & Role Modeling*· Apply youth development principles through communication, relationship-building, respect for diversity, and youth empowerment· Serve as a positive role model for campers and staff in attitude, behavior, and leadership· Set a strong example regarding camp procedures and practices, including sanitation, scheduling, sportsmanship, personal appearance, and conduct*Health, Safety & Facilities*· Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities· Be knowledgeable of and consistently enforce camp safety guidelines· Monitor equipment and facilities to ensure proper use, care, and maintenance; promptly report repair needs to the Camp Director· Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures*Other Job Duties*· Serve as a daily camp driver, transporting campers in a 12-passenger van· Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, including planning and leading assigned programs· Support and supervise daily programs, special events, overnight campouts, and all-camp activities· Drive for SDC when necessary, including morning pick-ups, afternoon drop-offs, and other times as needed· Work with, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff· Assist with off-season promotional events such as Open Houses, camp fairs, and community registrations· Assist in recruiting new campers and staff and conducting tours during the summer and off-season· Attend and lead SDC events held outside regular camp hours, including Overnight Campouts and Pool Party/BBQ events· Serve as a trip leader when applicable· Regularly assist with pre-care and post-care programs· Attend and assist during Staff Orientation as required (dates subject to approval by the Camp Director)*Relationships*Head Counselors work closely with counselors, kitchen staff, program specialists, athletics coordinators, other Head Counselors, and camp administration.*Qualifications (Minimum Education & Experience)*· Must be *25 years of age or older* and possess a *Bachelor’s degree*· Master’s degree or enrollment in a graduate education program preferred· Prior camp experience required; experience working with high school-aged youth preferred· Ability to obtain *First Aid and CPR certification*· Completion of health history record and medical examination prior to employment· Ability to interact effectively with all age groups· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record· Strong organizational skills and ability to train youth and staff*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities*· Understanding of youth development principles· Ability to relate positively to children and adults· Demonstrated knowledge and skills in designated camp program areas*Physical Requirements*· Ability to communicate effectively with campers and staff and provide instruction· Ability to observe camper behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations, and apply behavior-management techniques· Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to hazards· Physical ability to administer first aid and assist in emergencies (fire, evacuation, illness, injury)· Ability to lift up to *50 pounds*· Endurance for prolonged standing, walking, hiking, bending, climbing, and outdoor activity· Willingness to work irregular hours and in outdoor environments with exposure to sun, heat, and natural elementsJob Type: TemporaryPay: $2,000.00 - $3,000.00 per monthEducation:* Bachelor's (Preferred)Experience:* Education & Instruction: 1 year (Required)* Leadership: 1 year (Required)Work Location: In person
