Job Description

The client, a nonprofit community development corporation focused on affordable housing and community revitalization, is seeking a strategic financial leader for the Director of Finance position. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and involves overseeing the clients accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions, while also supporting real?estate development and asset management activities. It is a key leadership role designed as a successor position to the CFO, who plans to transition in two to three years. The Director of Finance will receive mentorship from the CFO and gain comprehensive exposure to the clients financial management, strategic planning, and governance in preparation for stepping into the top financial leadership role. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical accounting skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners. Core responsibilities include managing accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, developing and monitoring budgets, and supporting audit processes. Additionally, the role involves managing cash flow, banking relationships, and facilitating real estate financial management, such as accounting for development projects and compliance with financing and grant requirements. The Director of Finance will also lead efforts in fiscal compliance for affordable housing developments and provide analyses for refinancing and asset repositioning. In terms of strategic financial leadership, the Director of Finance will work closely with the CFO on process improvements and long?range financial planning. This involves presenting financial insights to board committees and serving as a liaison to external partners. Leadership and collaboration are also key components of the role, requiring the Director to build strong relationships across departments, promote transparency, and support the clients mission and values. Candidates should have 710 years of progressive experience in nonprofit, affordable housing, or real estate finance, along with strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. Supervisory experience and excellent communication and presentation skills are also essential for success in this role.
