This is a hands-on, strategic role with high visibility across the organization, including frequent collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.This newly created position is critical to supporting our rapid expansion in the US and will evolve in scope as the business scales. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in US indirect tax compliance and planning, coupled with strong accounting capabilities and operational experience in a multi-state environment.The role is based in New York and reports directly to the VP of Group Finance in Copenhagen, with a functional reporting line to the Managing Director, US in New York. As a member of our Global Finance team, this position serves as a key liaison between US operations and group-level finance functions, ensuring local practices align with global financial standards. We are in office 5 days a week. From time to time as your schedule permits you may be able to work from home one day a week on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday but just want to set the expectation that the majority of time this will be in office 5 days.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the US tax lead, managing operational compliance and ensuring timely filing and settlement of all tax obligationsOversee all US indirect tax filings (sales & use, property, personal property, resort taxes, etc.) in partnership with a Big 4 providerOwn tax registrations for new store openings and conduct tax impact assessments in new marketsAct as primary contact for US tax authorities; manage audits, inquiries, and routine interactionsLead indirect tax accounting and reconciliations in close collaboration with Group AccountingSupport the monthly close process alongside the Copenhagen-based Reporting & Controlling teamAct as the primary US accounting liaison, ensuring accurate and timely financial reportingCoordinate with external auditors and advisors on US statutory and tax-related mattersPartner with the Global Financial Shared Services team to support day-to-day accounting operationsDrive the selection and implementation of a tax automation platform to streamline complianceCollaborate with internal stakeholders across Legal, Retail, Payroll, and IT to support operational tax and accounting needsKey Qualifications7–10 years of relevant experience in US indirect tax and accounting, ideally in retail, hospitality, or other multi-unit businessesPrior experience at a Big 4 firm or in an in-house tax role supporting multi-state operationsProven expertise in sales & use tax, property tax, and managing complex tax registrationsStrong working knowledge of state and local tax regulations and direct dealings with tax authoritiesFamiliarity with month-end accounting processes and compliance requirementsAbility to thrive in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments; adaptable and solution-orientedExcellent communication and project management skills; comfortable working cross-functionally and across regionsAdvanced Excel skills with a continuous improvement mindsetExperience with tax automation tools (e.g., Avalara, Vertex) preferredMaster’s degree in Tax or Accounting and CPA preferredAdditional InformationInternational travel to Copenhagen required (up to 2 weeks per year)High-impact, autonomous role in a well-known international lifestyle brandOpportunity to lead tax compliance in a fast-scaling US businessStrategic project ownership (tax engine implementation)Collaborative environment with strong international exposureGrowth company mindset with career development potentialMedical/dental/vision coverageCommuter reimbursement account through AMERIFLEX401k planEmployee perk program to save on travel, entertainment, and more.Employee meal planFree coffee – duhNew parent leaveA collaborative team of people who live our core values and have your backNOTICE OF NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICYSeniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionAccounting/Auditing and FinanceIndustriesFood and Beverage ServicesFood and Beverage RetailRestaurantsAt Joe, we’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
