Contributes to education of family, community and hospital staff as appropriate, and participates in medical and nursing research as indicated. The CertifiedDiabetes Nurse Specialist works closely with the Program Coordinator on such issues as quality assurance, and equipment ordering when necessary. This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This individual must demonstrate the ability to assess data reflective of the patients’ status, identify each patient’s requirements relevant to his or her age specific needs, and provide appropriate care. The Certified Diabetes Nurse Specialist supports and advocates for people with diabetes to optimize quality care. The Certified Diabetes nurse specialist promotes self-management to achieve treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.Provides care to patients primarily in the outpatient setting.
