Position OverviewAn established cancer center in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Locum Tenens Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner to provide outpatient coverage. This opportunity arises from the recent resignation of a full-time Hem/Onc physician. The selected NP will work alongside a part-time Hem/Onc, a breast surgeon, a surgical oncologist, and radiation oncologists.Assignment DetailsStart Date: August 11, 2025 (or as soon as credentialed)Duration: Ongoing until permanent provider is hiredSchedule Options:3 days/week Monday, Wednesday, Friday (8 hours/day)5 days/week Monday Friday (8 hours/day)Setting: Primarily outpatient, with some inpatient consults/roundingPatient Population: Adult and geriatric (Spanish-speaking patients; interpreter support available)Practice Mix: 25% Hematology 75% Oncology 0% Internal MedicinePatient Volume:Outpatient: 10 patients/dayInpatient: 2 patients/dayOverall panel: patients, primarily chronic management (low emergent cases)EMR: EPICTeam & Support0.5 FTE Hem/Onc physician1 Breast Surgeon, 1 Surgical Oncologist, 2 Radiation OncologistsPatient Navigator, Social Worker, Medical Assistant, and Practice ManagerChemotherapy not administered onsite (performed at infusion center located 2 miles away)Radiation Oncologists on-site during coverageClinical ResponsibilitiesConduct outpatient visits and inpatient rounding as neededParticipate in tumor board discussionsOrder and interpret labs, imaging, and testsPrescribe medications and develop treatment plansRequired Procedures:Intracavitary/Intraperitoneal ChemotherapyIntrathecal ChemotherapyFine Needle Aspiration/BiopsyManagement of VAD/CV CathetersTravel & ReimbursementFlight, hotel, rental car, and mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rateFor long-term engagements, extended stay or Airbnb is preferred (Marriott Courtyard Silver Spring recommended)Local candidates strongly preferred and prioritized; full travel consideredCredentialingStandard timeframe: 3 monthsEmergency privileges may be granted once initial application is submittedRequirementsActive Maryland NP License required at time of submissionActive DEA and CDS required at time of submissionBoard Certified Hematology/Oncology NP requiredBLS or ACLS certification required to obtain privilegesNote in submission whether available for 3 or 5 days/weekMust indicate travel origin (local providers prioritized)
