The Certified Wound Continence and Ostomy Nurse is a registered nurse with certification in thisspecialty (CWON or CWOCN). He/she functions independently and collaboratively with themultidisciplinary team to provide specialized care for patients with wound, ostomy, and continenceconcerns in the acute care setting.The Certified Wound Continence and Ostomy Nurse influences patient care both directly, through theprovision of hands-on care, and indirectly, by serving as an educator, consultant, researcher, oradministrator guiding the provision of optimal patient care to patients with wound, ostomy, or continenceconcerns. The Certified Wound Continence and Ostomy Nurse participates in patient care assessment,planning, implementation, and evaluation for inpatients. She/He provides care forstomas, complex wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers, and fecal and urinary incontinence. The CWON orCWOCN Nurse provides specialized knowledge and skill to assist physicians and nursing staff with themanagement and teaching of patients with complex skin care needs, and guidance for selection ofrelated product formulary.Provides specialized knowledge and skill to assist physicians and nursing staff with the managementand teaching of patients with ostomies or patients with complex skin care needs.Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice to deliver quality patient care.The Certified Wound Continence and Ostomy Nurse provides mentoring for hospital staff in relationto these issues and assists in setting guidelines for patient care. These services and processes areperformed in accordance with standards of care and hospital guidelines.Leads, coordinates and carries out a wound care shared governance committee which includescollection and reporting of data such as incidence, prevalence, and pressure injury preventioninterventions.Conducts product review related to wound and ostomy care collecting recommendations, evaluationsand development of protocols for utilization.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Education:Bachelors of Nursing required; Masters in Nursing preferredANDExperience:Minimum 2 years' experience in medical surgical nursing.Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in state of practice; BLS required based on organizationalguidelines/polices; Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) or Certified Wound, Ostomy, ContinenceNurse (CWOCN) required.Salary Range $86,356.01 to $123,056.83 Annual The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
