Admission Clerk The Admission Clerk is responsible for greeting patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner, answering phone calls, gathering and/or verifying patient demographic and insurance data and assuring necessary paperwork is completed and accurate to facilitate professional, quality patient care. Job Duties: Professionally greets and assists patients and visitors upon entry to the facility. Follows established screening protocols for patients, employees, and visitors as required. Provides exceptional customer service in person and over the phone, maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor in high-pressure situations. Interacts courteously and effectively with providers, nurses, staff, patients, and visitors. Maintains coverage of the reception area and waiting room to ensure a safe and organized environment. Adheres to all facility policies and procedures, including no-show policies, dress code standards, and attendance requirements. Registers patients accurately and efficiently. Collects and verifies required patient demographic information. Verifies insurance coverage, runs KMAPS, and obtains current insurance cards for the patient file, including work-related injuries, workers' compensation, motor vehicle accidents, and secondary payer information. Collects patient payments accurately and provides receipts as required. Documents all payment and self-pay activity in the patient's account according to established procedures. Collects and processes required forms, including HIPAA Privacy Acknowledgment, Consent to Treat, and Consent to Treat a Minor. Verifies and updates patient information in the system, including Social Security number, address, phone number, preferred name/nickname, email address, primary care provider, employer, and emergency contacts. Balances the cash box at the beginning and end of each workday. Performs all duties in compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Opens and closes hospital doors, disburses mail, and performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Ability to comprehend and follow established office routines and policies. Position requires the ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail. Must be task oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to discuss, discern and exchange information clearly and accurately. Ability to perform mathematical tasks. Understand the ethics of confidentiality. Be able to interact with patients/families Equipment Utilized: Daily use of standard office equipment, e.g., telephone, fax, i-pad, video display terminal, copy machine, paging system, voice mail. Qualifications: Formal education is not required by law, but a high school diploma or a GED is preferred. Healthcare admission experience or background in general office work preferred. Bilingual skills are extremely helpful but not required. This position requires patience, being courteous, and tactful with neat and friendly appearance. Requires the ability to communicate and relate well with Physicians and other Clinical staff. Must be efficient and conscientious at all times in delivering medical care services to patients. Must have awareness of patient confidentiality and be able to follow directions well from Physicians and other Clinical staff.
