Job SummaryResponsiblefor journeyman-level work in installing, maintaining, and repairing electricalsystems, facilities, and related electronic controls and devices, includingprimary and secondary power systems. Conduct utility meter readings as requiredand perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems. This position isconsidered essential personnel and may require unusual attendanceresponsibilities, such as storm duty.Primary Duties and Responsibilities Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment and circuits such as wires, conduits, switches, outlets, junction boxes, transformers, motors, and generators in facilities such as pumps, lighting equipment, carrier systems, timing devices, electrical heating units, exhaust systems, smoke detectors, fire alarms, hypothermal units, thermostats, timing devices, Lutron lighting dimmer panels and electrical systems of furnaces and boilers. Isolates and corrects malfunctions in equipment and circuits of a routine recurring nature. Completes assigned work orders in a timely and efficient fashion while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor with all customers. Cuts, threads, bends, and installs conduits. Utilizes bucket truck, drills, saws, benders, voltmeters, amprobes, high voltage testers, and University vehicles.Also uses standard hands tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers. Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles electrical motors and related equipment following established procedures. Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment and card access locks.Transports a variety of tools and supplies to ensure that required materials are available at the job site. Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment including generators and back-up UPS. Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directs staff during pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts.This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift coverage and weekend work and performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsHigh schooldiploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of post-High School/GEDJATC or equivalent electrical training certification course. Must be acertified electrical journeyman. Must have a valid Mississippi Driver'sLicense. As a condition of employment, candidates must be willing to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to utilize an infrared camera to scan motors, busways, conduits, and circuits. Ability to operate tractors, forklifts, and loaders. Preferred Qualifications10 years of relatedexperience and/or training.
