Position Summary Tanaq is looking for a dedicated UXO Safety and Quality Control Specialist to join our team for a Vegetation and Target Management Services project at Fort A.P. Hill, VA. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for identifying munitions and ensuring safety in areas that have medium to high munitions risk. We are focusing on innovative robotic technologies for target removal unless site conditions dictate otherwise. This is a temporary, 100% onsite position in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Please note that this position is contingent upon contract award. Responsibilities Conduct thorough reconnaissance, classification, and identification of UXOs including various military munitions and fuzes. Inspect and verify Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) to ensure safety compliance. Set up and manage personnel decontamination stations. Utilize GPS and land navigation techniques to determine precise locations in the field. Assist in drafting risk and hazard analyses. Lead daily site safety briefings and UXO safety training. Oversee on-site UXO operations safely and effectively. Conduct operational risk and explosive hazard assessments. Ensure compliance with all site-specific explosive operations safety regulations. Enforce safety exclusion zones and personnel limits during explosive operations. Document safety inspections ensuring alignment with relevant policies and regulations. Maintain quality control audits for explosive operations to meet prescribed standards. Log daily activities, perform quality checks, and maintain documentation of certifications and qualifications for project personnel. Implement an effective quality control (QC) system in cooperation with project management. Develop, implement, and monitor the project’s QC plan in compliance with applicable standards. Conduct ongoing inspections and provide detailed reports to ensure continuous compliance with operational requirements. Address and document corrective actions for non-compliance in explosive operations. Conduct inspections to validate that all MEC-related activities meet DoD safety standards. Engage in real-time inspections while integrating corrective action procedures aligned with oversight to continuously improve project quality. Implement metrics for inspection and corrective action to track compliance and quality effectively. Perform initial MEC safety assessments and engage with the team to prevent any increase in explosive hazards. Inspect and certify targets in compliance with safety standards when moved to designated areas. Document and report any MEC and MPPEH discovered during operations. Compile and submit detailed documentation and reports as required. Ensure adherence to state and local requirements regarding personnel and procedures in potentially hazardous areas. Confirm all UXO team members complete mandatory briefings and safety training before commencing work. Evaluate subcontractors and support staff to ensure compliance with safety provisions. Other responsibilities may include: Develop and execute MEC-specific sections of the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP). Operate and maintain air-monitoring equipment at sites with airborne contaminants. Assist in inspecting MPPEH for explosive hazards presence. Construct protective measures related to UXO. Requirements Qualifications and Experience: Minimum 8 years of military EOD or 10 years of commercial UXO experience in munitions response or range clearance. Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing, HAZMAT endorsement preferred. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical exams, and background checks. Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Must be Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Education and Training: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of a qualified UXO training course or military EOD school, along with applicable experience. Obtain certifications in quality assurance or related training as well as OSHA and HAZWOPER certifications. Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 50 pounds; stand, bend, kneel, and walk for extended periods over rough terrain. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
