Position Summary The Merchant is responsible for ensuring the development, execution, and communication of a merchandise strategy that meets or exceeds financial plans. They are expected to identify trends, build customer-centric product assortments, maximize opportunities and build strong relationships with vendor partners, all internal leadership and colleagues. Duties and Responsibilities: Must have experience in the following areas: Financial: Responsible for all aspects of driving sales, margin, and turn within category of responsibility to meet financial goals. Collaborate with planners & Associate Merchant to analyze sales, margin, and inventory, identify trends and recommend/execute business opportunities and minimize risks. Partner with VP Merchandising to complete top down and bottoms up planning for category both annually and monthly in OTB. Analyze OTB and act as necessary by recommending changes to future on order, RTV's, pricing or markdown strategies. Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiating terms and margin. Marketing: Manage internal and external category & vendor communication in collaboration with marketing partners. Clearly define key priorities. Develop a strategy for assortment, pricing, and Omnichannel marketing touchpoints to drive category & vendor sales. Collaborate with director of merchandising to ensure effective communication to store leadership regarding product flow, priorities, opportunities, signage and markdown execution. Operational: Execute assortment plans, product selection/sourcing, pricing, vendor negotiations and promotional marketing. Work with merchandise planners/replenishment manager to ensure proper stock levels and fill rates of core items. Create and provide direction for store planning, signage and visual merchandising in partnership with Manager of Merchandise Execution. Formulate pricing strategies, negotiate discounts when appropriate, and execute markdown strategy. Collaborate with store leadership to align on customer needs and make appropriate adjustments to assortment and inventory. Prepare and oversee store communication for area of responsibility. Respond to all store feedback and proactively. Provide specific feedback in partnership with planner, associate merchant. Human Resources and Development: Maintain expert knowledge of industry through store visits and competitive analysis. Monitor and provide development and training of associate merchant and merchant support staff. Qualifications and Skills Required: Experience: 5 or more years of experience in a retail-buying environment required. Ability to multi-task. Strong proficiency in retail math and data analysis. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work well in a team environment and work independently. Proven analytical and problem-solving ability. Ability to lead through complexity Strong PC skills (MS office,) must include excel, BI. Excellent follow-through and attention to detail. Commitment to customer service for both external and internal customers. Passion for product and strong market awareness. Golf interest preferred. Must be assertive and eager to grow in an extremely fast-paced organization. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time as the job is completed primarily at a desk each day. Variable desk heights are offered so alternatively sitting and/or standing at the desk is optional. Travel: Up to 10% of travel is required.
