POSITION SUMMARY: To train personnel and assist the Department Foreman or Supervisor to ensure department runs smoothly and safely. Work side by side with packaging employees to ensure that only product that meets customers' specifications is properly packaged. Assist the Packaging Supervisor to ensure packaging lines run in an organized manner and production schedules are met in a safe manner. Ensure employees pack the proper amount of product in appropriate Master cases. Vernon Facility ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensures that all equipment is set up prior to start up. Operates code dater video jet computer to change codes, times, dates, & production line #1 on master case as needed. Runs all three metal cards 3.0 Ferrous, 2.5 Un-ferrous, and 3.5 Stainless Steel through metal detector at start of shift and every hour after that. If metal detector does not reject, notify QA and/or Supervisor immediately. Identifies problems and takes immediate corrective action. Follows up to ensure corrective action is taken. Calls mechanic or notifies foreman or supervisor of mechanical problems that unable or not trained to fix. Checks that all employees are wearing proper PPE and adhere to GMP's & dress code. Assists Supervisor in training new employees on GMP's, SOP's, and to safely do their jobs. Checks the number of workers on assigned line(s) to ensure that standards are met & keeps workers on pace to maintain optimal efficiency. Ensures that a Production case count is performed every hour and note an explanation on form when case count number is not met per hour. In the absence of a Lead Packer, a Production Supervisor will assume the responsibility. Lead Packer is responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues to Production Supervisor or Production Manager in his/her respective department. Enforces all company rules in a fair and consistent manner. Follows J&J Snack Food's Food Safety Plan (FSP), the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program, the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and the Good Documentation Practices (GDPs). Follows all OSHA safety rules and all food safety laws and regulations. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and training:PreferHigh School diploma or GED. Job-related experience:Requiresminimum 6 months' experience in area of responsibility in the food industry. Managerial experience: N/A Technical knowledge and skills: Knowledge and understanding on reading a product code specification on what's required to package product (example) Master case, Labels, Correct bag, code date, etc. Ability to operate code dater video jet computer to change codes, times, dates, & production line #1 on master case as needed. Must be able to speak, read & write basic English. Must be able to do basic arithmetic. Requires bilingual skills: English & Spanish. Required Education: Prefer High School diploma or GED. Required Experience: Requires minimum 6 months' experience in area of responsibility in the food industry. Knowledge and understanding on reading a product code specification on what's required to package product (example) Master case, Labels, Correct bag, code date, etc. Ability to operate code dater video jet computer to change codes, times, dates, & production line #1 on master case as needed.
