Position Summary and Key Responsibilities In order to ensure the safety of members of the McKendree community, the Office of Public Safety is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the campus; assisting members of the University community as needed; responding to emergency situations including fire alarms, inclement weather alarms, and other incidents; and enforcing parking and other university policies. Public Safety works to create an environment where people can feel safe to learn, work, live and visit and is committed to providing safety and protection to the entire University community. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Public safety officer with safety and protection for all campus personnel and property. Assist with parking for all events conducted on campus and abroad as directed by the Chief Assist aswering service calls via radio or telephone, type reports, and make incident blotter entries. Conducts periodic walk-throughs in all campus buildings, especially the residence hall areas. Assite in closes or locks unsecured doors, gates, and windows to deter illegal activity and loss of property. Participates in extensive communication with faculty, staff, and students. Maintains radio communication with public safety offices Assist in patrolling campus property, checking for safety hazards. Assist opening and secures campus facilities for regular operations as well as for special events. In case of emergencies, performs necessary first aid or administer Narcan to prevent opioid overdose until the arrival of ambulance personnel. Monitors weather conditions and alerts campus personnel when necessary. Maintains an efficient knowledge of directives, rules, and regulations according to the Public Safety Procedures Manual and University Employee Handbook. Adheres to all departmental and University policies and procedures. Performs duties as assigned by shift Public Safety Supervisor. Qualifications Required Qualifications:High School graduate or GED, at least 21 years of age; knowledge and skills listed above. Must be able to successfully complete and pass a physical fitness test that includes running, sit ups, and lifting in accordance with University policy and standards. Must have a valid driver's license, must pass annual DMV check. Must successfully complete a mandatory pre-employment background check, psychological exam, and drug screening. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with students, employees, and management. Ability to identify problems quickly and make accurate, timely decisions. Preferred Qualifications: Must have or be able to complete the Illinois Unarmed Private Security Certification. Must possess or be able to obtain an Illinois PERC in the first 60 days of hire. Must be willing to take and pass psychological test and drug tests, as needed. Work Conditions 12-hour work shifts, shift work, weekends and holidays included. Position requires extensive walking, working outdoors in all types of weather.
