Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Nursing, the Nursing Laboratory Lead is responsible for the weekly operational management of the Nursing Skills and Simulation Laboratories; , facilitates nursing lab and simulation activities and mentors lab instructors, establishes and maintains current and long-term planning for clinical laboratory environments and activities including identifying needs for laboratory use and equipment. Incumbent will support use of Simulation in Healthcare Best Practice Standards ? and in collaboration with course faculty facilitate current practice trends for nursing laboratory and simulation experiences. maintains nursing laboratory standards of practice. Collaborates to monitor academic standards for the nursing programs and assists in ensuring the curriculum meets all regulatory and/or accreditation standards. Other responsibilities include initiative to maintain and improve the quality of instruction in laboratory and simulation to promote student learning. EDUCATIONAL-EXPERIENCE: A Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education (MSN) is required or a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) with enrollment in an MSN program from an accredited college or university with expected completion within three years of hire or CNEcl or CNE certification. Simulation certification (CHSE or CHSOS) preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: A minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience and experience as a nursing skills laboratory instructor required. Also desired: Computer literacy and technology skills including use of simulation devices; Experience with mentoring faculty and students in nursing skills and simulation in the laboratory. Current registration in good standing as a professional nurse in Massachusetts required. Minimum of two (2) years full-time employment in nursing or its equivalent within the past five (5) years and evidence of current clinical competence. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists Assistant Dean of Nursing with scheduling, monitoring and mentoring of Simulation Technician (s) Requirements: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Primary role responsibilities focus on ensuring the laboratory and simulation experiences support Nursing programs' student learning outcomes. Management: Demonstrates leadership and knowledge in the simulation process to cultivate a safe learner-centered environment and to foster excellence Incorporate into simulation center functions the Simulation in Healthcare Best Practice Standards ? to create and maintain a safe, supportive and positive learning environment conducive to skill development and transition into practice. Serve as a professional role model upholding regulatory, ethical, and nursing standards of practice Communicate effectively with Division of Nursing faculty, students, and administrative team to enhance the overall educational experience and foster collaboration. Collaborate with Assistant Dean of nursing and faculty to identify and discuss simulation center program needs and improvements. Provide management of simulation center to efficiently allocate resources, supply adequate staffing and maintain inventory to meet student learning outcomes, Interfaces with clinical simulation vendors and oversees repairs for maintenance of simulation center equipment, manage outsourced contracts as necessary Tracks, orders, and manages inventory, including repair and replacement of broken equipment. Ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials; Oversees the collection and disposal of waste materials; Organize with faculty assistance the set up and breakdown of laboratory/ simulation sessions Attend faculty and/or student meetings as needed Establishes and updates laboratory policies and procedures in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Nursing Educator Skills: Assists with development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical simulation scenarios; Engage with students in a teaching/learning process that prepares students for the practice of nursing in diverse healthcare environments Prepare prior to sessions as needed so knowledgeable of content and lab agenda plan of modules/simulations. Use information technologies proficiently to support teaching-learning process including the use of online tools, electronic charts, high-fidelity human simulators and equipment Teach and demonstrate nursing procedures and techniques within the lab, ensuring students understand practical applications Mentor and guide faculty to develop knowledge and effective evidence-based pedagogy that foster clinical judgment process model and the development of practical nursing abilities while utilizing Simulation in Healthcare Best Practice Standards ? in the teaching of nursing skills during laboratory and simulation events Assist with providing formative evaluations that promote learning, and validate nursing skills and competencies in accordance with evidence-based practice Assist in evaluating student performance in the laboratory and simulation settings and ensure performance meets competencies of the program based on course objectives and program outcomes Maintain communication with lead course faculty and the applicable Assistant Dean of Nursing regarding student progress and/or instructional issues. Engage in program evaluations and contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance nursing education. Professional Development: Demonstrate motivation, self-direction, and perseverance toward achieving the philosophy and mission of the Division of Nursing.
