The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the Americas Engineering team responsible for leading and supporting capital projects across multiple plant locations in North America. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Responsibilities include supporting capital projects and plant upgrades, encompassing basic and detailed design, machinery and utilities specification, equipment cost estimates, capital appropriation development, supplier selection and management, equipment installation, and startup. In addition, this role provides hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and maintenance operations through the design, fabrication, installation, and optimization of production machinery, utilities, and pipework systems. Job Responsibilities Lead or support capital and projects from concept through installation and startup Prepare equipment and utilities specifications, cost estimates, and technical documentation Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to meet project scope, schedule, and budget Support equipment installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting, improving, and maintaining mechanical systems, utilities, and production equipment Identify reliability, safety, and performance improvement opportunities within existing machinery and utilities infrastructure Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and root cause analysis of equipment and system failures Design mechanical systems, machines, tooling, fixtures, and pipework layouts to support manufacturing processes Develop mechanical drawings and layouts using CAD software Support in-house and external fabrication efforts, including material selection and build oversight Review designs for manufacturability, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and codes Prepare technical reports, project updates, and design documentation Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, purchasing, and management Job Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or maintenance environment Proven experience in designing and fabricating machinery or mechanical systems Demonstrated experience with plant utilities and industrial pipework systems Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent) Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, and troubleshooting Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to travel regionally as required (up to 25%) Experience with capital project execution Knowledge of industrial safety standards, machine guarding, and piping codes Experience working with vendors, contractors, and fabrication shops PLC, controls, or electrical systems exposure is a plus Experience with heavy rubber processing machinery (mixing, extrusion, vulcanization, or similar) is a plus Armacell will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience, and location.
