Location: AO Fox Hospital Unit Type: ICU/SCU (Universal Care Unit) Unit open date: 07/01/2025 Unit Overview: AO Fox is launching a Universal Care Unit that flexes between intermediate and critical care acuity. Due to the potential for high-acuity patients, the facility is initially seeking critical care-trained nurses to support safe patient care and rapid unit activation. Bed Count: Launching with 4 beds • Expanding to 8 beds by August, 2025. Staffing Model: Nursing: Primarily agency travelers at go-live; permanent staff hiring and onboarding will follow Support Staff (e.g., CNA, HUC, etc.): Core AO Fox staff Patient Ratios: Based on acuity • Standard is 4:1 o Must be comfortable floating to units of different acuity. Ratios will vary accordingly. Orientation: Hybrid model in development o Shadowing opportunities on inpatient units o Potential ICU/SCU orientation at Bassett Medical Center to gain comfort with EMR, equipment (e.g., pumps), and workflows Float Expectations: Travelers should be prepared to float to Med/Tele during periods of low census Medication/Drip Experience: Specific medication list pending • Nurses should be confident in basic medical critical care management and familiar with common drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Levophed Interview Process: Interviews required Additional Information: This unit is a critical initiative for both AO Fox and the surrounding community Ideal candidates: Adaptable and comfortable in a startup environment o Familiar with PDSA cycles and open to process improvement o Confident in autonomous care and collaborative practice Unit care will be supported through tele-intensivist collaboration with Equum Medical
