The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th - 12th grade campuses. About the Bulldog Marching Band: The Bulldog Marching Band at Waukegan High School is a volunteer competitive marching band, dedicated to fostering musical excellence and a strong sense of school spirit. As a member of the Bulldog Marching Band, students perform at various events, including football games, marching competitions, parades, and other community performances. Our band is committed to representing Waukegan High School with pride and dedication. Responsibilities: Assist with the rehearsal and performance preparation of the color guard section, including but not limited to the following equipment: flags, poles, rifles, and equipmentless dance. Provide individual and sectional color guard instruction as needed during weekly after-school rehearsals, band camp, and other designated times, along with overall marching band instruction. Attend all scheduled rehearsals, including but not limited to: 2-3 day summer Mini Camp rehearsal 2-week Late-Summer/Early-Fall Band Camp 3 weekly after-school rehearsals throughout the season 4-5 Friday night or Saturday football games 3-4 Saturday marching field competitions Select parades and community performances Color guard specific performances Collaborate with the director(s) and other band staff members to ensure a cohesive and successful program. Develop and implement color guard-related warm-ups, exercises, and drills to enhance the color guard section's technical skill, tone, and performance abilities. Create and oversee a color guard warm-up routine (flags/dance/rifles), flag routines for the football stands pep song, and a competitive marching band field show color guard choreography/dance/routine. Possibility to oversee a winter guard team. Support students in both their technical and musical development, fostering a positive, professional, safe, respectful, and motivating environment. Assist with logistics, such as equipment, trailer loading and unloading, and student management during events and rehearsals. Collaborate in the planning of the creative show concept including musical selection, concept input, and sound/visual design. Qualifications: Previous experience performing in a high school, drum corps, winter guard, and/or collegiate marching band for color guard. Prior drum corps, competitive high school or collegiate marching band, or winter guard teaching experience is preferred but not required. Strong knowledge of color guard flag work, dance, marching band techniques, color guard equipment techniques, color guard integration with the band, and color guard-specific pedagogy. Ability to work effectively with high school students, staff, and parents in a collaborative and supportive manner. A commitment to upholding a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment. Availability to attend required events, including Friday night football games, Saturday marching competitions, weekly after-school rehearsals, band camp, and select parades and community performances, including color guard specific performances. Compensation: Compensation is based on the hourly stipend contracts according to the WPS60 Contract and varies depending on years of experience in this district position and the number of hours worked.
