As a Lead Estimator, you will plan, manage, coordinate, and estimate projects with support from our dedicated estimating team. Key Responsibilities: Analyze specifications and drawings, and participate in pre-bid meetings to ascertain the scope of work and estimating requirements. Investigate site conditions before bidding to identify waste areas, borrow locations, and dump sites. Quickly identify risks and develop strategies for mitigation. When necessary, create self-performed scopes (labor and material) and review with the General Superintendent. Evaluate design options and recommend solutions based on cost-effectiveness, engineering quality, and material availability. Utilize historical unit price and productivity data for estimates. Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity reports into unit and man hour figures. Understand the critical path schedule and sequence of work. Explore value engineering opportunities. Prepare estimates through comprehensive takeoffs of the work scope, pricing individual work items. Review subcontractor and vendor quotes, acting as a liaison during the bidding phase. Maintain organized files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, ensuring access to current pricing information from suppliers. Consult with the Director of Estimating and the preconstruction team for pricing reviews. Support team members in preparing estimates for assigned trades. Establish budgets for projects. Participate in client presentations as needed. Conduct site visits to observe construction methods. Ensure all documentation and data are systematically maintained to support estimate figures. Stay proficient in software tools and technology utilized in estimating. Engage in project hand-off meetings and attend relevant meetings with suppliers and subcontractors. Communicate and uphold the Company’s vision, values, and goals. Complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors. Expected Outcomes: Estimates are submitted on time, professionally, and competitively. Estimates are accurate, accounting for risks and construction methodologies. Projects utilizing the estimates prove profitable. Establish a positive company image with clients, potential clients, vendors, and subcontractors. Cultivate strong relationships with subcontractors, adhering to ethical standards. Essential Skills and Experience: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and experience. 10+ years of experience in estimating and cost control management. Proficient in CPM conceptual scheduling. Experience estimating projects ranging from $100,000 to over $75 million. Familiarity with estimating software such as Timberline, On-Screen Takeoff, Building Connected, etc. Extensive knowledge of corporate construction procedures, estimating techniques, and all relevant engineering disciplines. Strong math and computer skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
